Yes, I know him. I am not, nor was I a devote follower but certainly helped me a lot as well as with other issues during a period in my life.

Wonderful organization and has saved many lives.:)

I recommend the Hallmark film with James Woods and James Gardner for those that do not know of how it started.

Been to many a meeting with my mom before she passed away,
and a bunch for several months after a DWI' some 20 years ago.
It really is a great organization with good people all in the same boat,
I should slow down on my beer consumption, or quit all together!
Im just not ready yet, .. enjoy it to much*

I told my wife that Bill W has a good friends in the US Military. The old miltary habits die hard. Trying to get the new soldiers to examine their lifes without the "crutch" will wake up one or two. The greatest challenge is when the soldiers get back from deployments and they think they "Need to make up for lost time". Sadly, a lot get killed or ruin their lives.

Okay, who is Bill W.? Is this some sort of AA organization?

I read books by an author who I know has had some alcohol problems in her family, and (I suspect) in her own life. She has a character who attends AA meetings, and tells a little about that. Not much.

Thank God I never had any such issue, nor does anyone I know now. Used to have a coworker who was an alcoholic. Kept saying that he got better every day, but he didn't. His family shunned him and he was eventually fired. Very sad.

My heart goes out to anyone who has that addiction. I gather that it's an actual chemical dependency, not just a moral lapse, in many cases.

But what's that bit above about getting just a half cup of coffee at meetings? Why not full cups?

If any of you ever get a chance to be in Akron go to 855 Ardmore Ave. 44302, it's still there. Everything is just as it was in 1935 and all the furniture has been found and replaced including the original coffee pot sitting on the kitchen table. Google Map and click on the picture. Awesome place, been there a few times.
