He's 8 weeks old. Had him home now for a couple hours. He had not been inside a house before...

So far he has done well. He likes his dog bed in the living room, and had a nap. And we've already had three successful outside potty trips. He doesn't wander off, stays with me & the wife without a leash, and does alright with the cat & other dog.

Love Shepherds. Here's mine in Yosemite:

Here she is when she first met the cat:

Frank, the cat, never liked any of our other animals. To this day the Shepherd, Sage, thinks she's smaller than the cats. :)

Sounds to me like the start to a beautiful friendship. :D

I personally believe they are people with fur. I will never be without one in my life.

Cute pup! When did his ears go up, and how old is he now?

He was 9 weeks old yesterday. One ear is still down and one up. It went up about 4 days ago. The one that is down looks like it may take a little bit longer as it really isn't even trying yet. I don't worry about their ears until they are 12-16 weeks as that is how long it took a couple of my other ones.

Your boy looks strong and healthy and looks like he is going to be big. How big we're his parents? Is he your first shepherd?

Congrats on the pup, we were into Dobermans (police dogs) & German shorthairs, but I've seen 5 German Shepherds that I would have happily stolen, but their owners/handlers all knew where we lived.......your pup looks like he's going to be a sizable dog from looking at those paws.

Get him to YOUR vet ASAP for a good going over.......& his shots too. Again congrats sir.

We have always had Rottweilers in the past, 5 of them over the years. Two of the mutts we have had were part German Shepard. And we have had friends with GSD's too. So far, I'm betting that training will be similar to how my Rotts were.

Momma and poppa were there for us to visit & check out. I have a couple pics he provided.

Momma is around 90 pounds.

Poppa is around 120 pounds.

are both mom & pop from working lines? How did they handle when you were there? good on obedience? Very very important for me that they were out of good lines & are working dogs themselves.

He uses them hunting, and for moving cows. When I met them, they were friendly & took commands from me (a total stranger). Although they would alway look at Dad first.

I was able to look in their mouths, check their bite, gums, teeth, etc. I was able to pet them, check their hips, they did not get uncomfortable with a stranger poking & prodding, etc.
