I had posted earlier about starting to shoot uspsa competition, but I have to buy a holster rig, and would like to hear what some of you recommend?
Thanks

What division(s) and what gun(s) are you planning on shooting?

You don't need anything fancy. Like your previous thread about what pistol to use the answer is "whatever you currently have, then decide later what to buy." I've shot matches with a cheapo holster and magazines stuffed in my back pocket. A simple kydex belt holster and double mag pouch is sufficient to start with (for a double stack.)

Once you learn the game, you can just about tell what division someone is shooting just by looking at them wearing their rig.
I agree that going out and buying a $125 safariland race holster now because you think you might want to shoot Limited Division is putting the cart before the horse.
Take whatever you have, go to the match and shoot. Learn the game and decide what you like. I shoot Production Division mostly in USPSA, which requires "normal" guns and holsters that you could wear to carry.

You're not going to pick the "perfect rig" and you aren't going to go shoot the perfect match first time. Just go have fun, be safe, and maybe learn something.

Get a Kydex holster for your gun and magazine pouches. It won't break the bank and will last you a lifetime. It doesn't matter what division you get into. The Kydex is fast and secure.

In revolver I started with a simple but quality Galco Combat Master with two two-post moon clips for N Frame S&W (works with either 8-Shot .357 such as 627 or 8-Shot 9mm such 929).

I am thinking about going up to some of the gear suggested by Julie Golob here: Guns & Gear: USPSA Revolver Divison S&W Performance Center 929 [Video]. She also provides links to all the manufacturers of the gear she uses.

In Glock 9mm (Model 34) I started with a very simple leather holster that cleared leather early, and cheap Kydex 9mm magazine holders also utilizing my 5.11 pants magazine holder for on deck magazine.

9mm I've been running Winchester competition ammo bought from Midway USA; .38 Special I've been running Federal American Eagle or Federal White Box (not sure the White Box could even make minor power) with TK Custom alloy moon clips at 0.025 thickness. The alloy still grabs the magnetized posts but without the death grip of the carbon steel moon clips.

In the 90s there was a group of us who shot to shoot...... not race. We just shot our carry guns or in my case a PC SD-9 (carry gun was a 3913/6906) in OWB holsters.... often still wearing cover garments. This was pre-IDPA.

It was a local club and the range officers knew us and out intent..........so it became NBD...... we weren't there to compete with the race guns ...... and we didn't ...... but got lots of practice and shot lots of slow A's.LOL

LOL

1st rule for new shooters ..... go slow and have fun!

If you're just "testing the water", beg and borrow. Shooting USPSA with carry gear will be an exercise in frustration.

I shoot revolver and have DAA belts, DAA Racer holsters, and North Mountain moonclip and speedloader holders. I have two belts all set up. One for N frames with moonclips and one for K frames and speedloaders. I started with a CR Speed holster but really like the DAA Racer (not Racemaster) holsters much better. They'd be my semi-auto choice too if the class allowed.

Be leery of what sponsored shooters are using. It's their sponsors stuff and probably not what they'd be using if they were buying with their own dollars.
