Just won an unusual 5946TSW on GB. It is marked 5946TSW, but is entirely flat black. The seller states it is a 5946TSW SST. I have never heard of such a creature, nor could I find it in the SCSW. Any ideas?
Unsure exactly of the animal about which you speak. IIRC someone put up pictures of a very similar model with an add-on rail and the RCMP crest on it - pretty sure it was a non-TSW. I believe if you search "Melonite 5946" you should be able to find it. I am also aware of the integrally-railed Melonite 5946. This too is a non-TSW version.
When these were first mentioned, s&w19_357 (I think) indicated that there were 4 with the integral rail and 1 with a bolt-on rail all bearing the same product code. Maybe if you changed the title of this thread you'd get more action from the DAO lovers.
I believe at least 3 have been accounted for here with possibly a 4th lurking. I won't dime out the other owners but perhaps they'll be along to share. When I called Smith about it prior to the letter the rep. wouldn't give exact production #s but would say it was single digits.
This is my sweety-pie:
Take some pics and share, threads are always more fun with pics.
Very sweeeeet looking piece!!!!! Mine is flat black and marked C.A.I. for Century Arms on the slide. I would love to post pictures but my phone won't allow me to even post thumbnails. It really is a cool pistol and I would love to learn more about it.
