Hi,
I am considering purchasing a S&W 629 carry comp and am wondering how it shoots. I have read where some J-frames are brutal to shoot full house loads because of size and weight. I know the 629 is about double the weight of a 357 J-frame. How does it handle full house 44 mag loads? Does anyone really shoot full house loads or light loads and 44 specials? Appreciate any info!!

Thanks,
Chuck

Welcome to the forum. I like the looks of the 629 Carry Comp. I have a regular 629 3", not the comp. I have shot it with both factory .44 spec and .44 mag. It is not bad at all with the .44 spec. but a bit of a handfull with the Mag. I just get a good grip and its ok. I shoot on a outdoor range and take my time between rounds. The 629 is a "N" frame and is a fairly heavy revolver. Chop

I recently purchased a 629 Carry Comp and it's great. One of my favorite revolvers at the moment. I've put several hundred rounds through it - ranging from special loads to a variety of 300g bullets and it can be a handful with the heavier bullets and full power loads. I've shot with the Eagle grips that come with it as well as a Hogue grip. It's less painful than the 329 Night Guard... :D

I got to fire 25 rounds from one belonging to a friend just this past weekend. I found it to be rather manageable and a great shooter.

The difference is.....

What's the diff between the carry comp and a ported 3 inch 629-4 trail boss?

The Carry Comps are fixed sight models.....

Here's examples from the first and second production runs....
