Any luck with backordering ammo?

I just backordered some .22lr ammo from MidwayUSA. Does anyone have any history with them and backordering? I'm wondering if I'll ever see the ammo. If it will eventually come, then I'll stop looking for awhile, but if it's hopeless, then I'll continue on with my search. My guess is that I'll never hear from them but thought it was worth a try.

No experience with backordering ammo, but I had an AR upper on backorder from Midway for so many months I lost count. It eventually arrived, exactly what I ordered at the price I ordered it at, so they appeared to have their backordering act together for that item, at least.

Backorder means its not in stock and the availability of 22lr has been sketchy at best and non existent in some areas so to expect that it will show up in a few days or weeks is asking too much. When I placed a back order the expected date Midway was going to receive the ammo was 31 Dec 2013 and that date can be pushed out. Its just a waiting game when it comes to 22lr. While I have an order on backorder I will continue to search for it locally.

Midway always will get it in and ship for quoted price. At under .07 per round for mini mags I will wait.

I've got about 3k rounds of 22lr on backorder at Midway on two different orders. I'm sure it will show up eventually. And I only live a 45 minute drive away, so I'll be picking it up at their location. :-)

Back in January when the ammo shortage started I backordered a case of 9mm ammo from them. It took 5 months but I got it and for the original pre panic price.

Last year I had some Winchester 145gr Silvertip .357 Magnum ammo on backorder for well over 4 months. Out of nowhere and I had forgotten about it I got an email from midway they shipped the ammo. When they get it you will get it and from what I'm told if they cancel your order they will inform you of it...

My Midway order is back ordered until June of 14. That's okay I guess, I'll just shoot it when it gets here!
I'll be glad when all of this ammo shortage is over. I'd like to just go to the store and pick some up again.

I just went back and looked and now the backorder date is November 2014. I guess there's no harm in waiting it out but I also will not be surprised if I never see it.

I'm guessing you're not one who backorders. Therefore that makes what others do the cause of the problem?

"You people who shoot or store any amount of ammo greater than I shoot or store do realize that you are a huge part of the ammo shortage problem, right?"

Pick one you like. err, pick one that supports your own personal viewpoint. Deciding where to place the blame does exactly nothing to remedy your perceived situation.

Ammo shortage? I shoot 1000 rounds per week. Have as much stored as I feel is appropriate. Don't pay exorbitant amounts for my ammo. Why are YOU sensing a shortage? Is it something that I'm doing that's causing your shortage?

My BO experience so far with other stuff is that Midway underpromises and overdelivers. :D

Ordered my .223/5.56 reloading gear that was backordered. It showed up right away.

Because backorders back up the supply system, Sgt. Lumpy. When every Range Gomer panics and orders ammo those orders overwhelm the system. Economics 101. That, the knuckleheads who stand outside Walmart & Bass Pro everyday and the "scalpers" caused this situation. Of course, if one cannot see beyond their own selfish needs, then I am wasting my time in pointing this out.

While I agree that buying .22 ammo from scalpers at higher than average prices only makes the situation worse, I see no problem with back ordering ammo at a reasonable price, and waiting for the supply to meet the demand. I believe it is the people who buy from the scalpers that really exacerbate the situation. I learned a hard lesson a few years back when I could not purchase primers or powder for reloading. Since then I have built my stockpile enough so that I never get below a one year supply of those components. This allows me to have enough components on hand so that I am never forced to overpay for components. While having everyone build their stock of .22 ammo at once will put a strain on the manufacturers, it will put most shooters in a position where they don't have to purchase from the scalpers in the future.

Oddly enough, I took Econ 101. I don't remember a thing about Range Gomers, whatever insulting concept you suggest that to mean.

As for "selfish needs"... Again, we're faced with the fascinating concept of "My personal needs are better/greater than your personal needs".

Nobody "needs" .22 ammo. It's a hobby. It's not food or water. The mistaken viewpoint that the market/the world somehow "owes me" .22 ammo at a price that I feel is reasonable, and in a delivery mode (one box at a time from Wallys), THAT is the selfish viewpoint.

I have plenty of .22 ammo. I buy it regularly at reasonable prices, sometimes on back order, sometimes in real time, NEVER one box or one brick at a time and NEVER from those people who "buy low and sell high" that you despise.

Maybe you don't have the ammo you think you "need". Blaming me for your short sightedness because I back order, or calling people "range gomer" doesn't make up for you failing to get the kind of ammo deals you think the world owes you.

I have no idea what a range gomer is, so I might be one.

But I did order some 45 Colt once (not from Midway) and they sent me one box and put the rest on backorder.

It was on backorder so long, I forgot about it.

Then, I received an email saying it had been shipped, and delivery was for the next week.

The trouble was, we were heading out on a two week vacation, and I didn't want ammo to come and sit on my porch for a week or more.

Anyway, I called UPS and asked them to require a signature for delivery -- and they did and ended up holding it until I got back.

Boge - St. Lumpy has summed this up pretty well but I will reiterate. I don't know what a range gomer is, but I fail to see how it is unreasonable for me to want some ammo given that I just bought a new .22lr revolver. I have a single shot rifle, but I only had one brick of ammo (500 rounds). Unfortunately, I see no way to build my stock to a reasonable level at a reasonable price than to throw my hat into the backorder ring. If you can help me get some ammo under .07/round, I'd be happy to entertain alternatives. However, I don't have the time to hang out at Walmart for a box at a time and I don't have the time to spend surfing the net for ammo that seems to be out of stock by the time I click on it. Econ 102 - I'm willing to wait to build my supply at a reasonable cost. Being an American 101 - My definition of reasonable stock doesn't have to equal anyone else's definition. That said, 5000 rounds should last me a really long time and it seems reasonable for me to acquire it all in one purchase if possible.

I haven't got the warm fuzzies about MidWay USA backorders. In my case (several BOs of different 22 rimfire) they start with a shipping date and keep moving that date further out. Finally they say "overdue" instead of a shipping date.

To me "Overdue" means they are expecting it at any moment.

However, if you put the "overdue" product into a shopping cart; you will find the expected shipping date magically re-appears --- except now instead of say March, it's the end of June.

22 ammo is manufactured according to a schedule. If WW says they'll deliver in January, I think they probably did what they said they would do. MidWay, however, probably gets only a fraction of what it needs to fill BOs, so just sticks up a new, farther out, shipping date, hoping it'll get more from WW by that time.

I seriously doubt the WW or Federal or CCI doesn't deliver what and when it says it will ---- It's a manufacturer and unless un-avoidable delays come up (the factory burns down, the Guvmt says "Make 40 S&W instead of 22 LR) there's no reason to believe that WW's schedule of shipment isn't kept to a major customer like MidWay USA.

Me, I haven't gotten a single back-ordered round!! I use 2000 rounds or more every Spring (Richardson's Ground Squirrels).

Extremely nice people and good prices. They DO have some S-K Match HP but it's a bit expensive for my uses.

Just a PS to this thread. I received an E Mail from Midway that (again) delays an expected BO ship date --- from March to October. Another BO still says "Overdue". I'm losing what little faith I had.

I DID find an online site where I can order up to 3500 WW Power Points AT 25 CENTS PER ROUND PLUS SHIPPING. Somebody is getting their orders.

I backordered 5000 rounds of CCI MiniMag from midway at the beginning of November and it was shipped a few days ago, should be getting it today. All my other backorder have been cancelled due to NY not allowing Internet Sales of ammo.

This will make you feel better.... Midway has been selling .22lr once a week or so that I have on backorder!!!! How is that??? I was really upset today because of it. I just missed it, but they sold a ton of different .22lr of which all of it I had back ordered. I called, and the rep said we " sell first to the instant buyers vs the backorder buyers" ***!! Not looking good for midway back orders.
