Well, I'm a white person reading it, and I think TV has quite enough minority roles lately. I was afraid that Ziva would be replaced by a non-white, just for PC reasons, which is why we see some minority actors.

I'm glad to see the new blonde, and I think she'll do fine.

Remember, the NCIS director is already a black man. Possibly, they might fit in an Asian or a Latina?

Do you like, "Hawaii Five-O" or, "The Mentalist"? I don't mind the mix on those shows, and liked Grace Park (Korean-Canadian) on, "Battlestar Gallactica", too. But I don't like the obnoxious black guy they added to,"The Mentalist" as an FBI agent, and I don't like the one on, "Intelligence". Agent Cho on, "The Mentalist" is Korean-American, I think. I don't know about Chin-Ho Kelly on 5-0.

Surely, they can find some black actor who isn't an "in your face" aggressive sort? But they seem to want that attitude.

That's all we can say here about race, I'm sure. But you touched a nerve. I realize that you were just expressing a personal preference. I'm just saying that tastes differ on such things, and I think a minority actress would be a sop to PC, which many viewers find irritating.

You know an American Indian actor might be nice, if he didn't have a racial chip on his shoulder, which is how they'd probably write him. Hollywood doesn't know how to handle racial issues except to highlight and exploit them.
That doesn't help people of different backgrounds to get along well.

Have you noticed that, "Hawaii Five-0" calls whites "haolis"? Racist terms about other races are taboo, but not that one, I guess...If I thought they'd care, I'd write to them about it.

I spent some time reading Mark Harmon's bio. He's pro gun control, which I am, also. Read with me a bit.

My husband and I own several rifles, shotguns, handguns, etc. We secure all of these dangerous weapons in a heavy gun safe. If we did not do this, these dangerous weapons might fall into the hands of stupid teenagers, gang-bangers, or other types of thugs who might do harm with the weapons my husband and I have purchased. I own firearms. I am responsible for their storage and protection. This "sticking point" is something that some gun owners do NOT want to deal with. They think the weapons they purchase are just a "thing" and doesn't need to be secured. I disagree, and here is where I believe "control" needs to exist. All firearms owners need lockboxes, safes, secure methods to ensure the "things" they purchase cannot harm a human being. Call me crazy, this is what I think.

Securing weapons in your home is not what the gun control fanatics want. They don't want us to have them at all.

What part of this did you miss?

Also, I blame the thief who steals a gun more than I do an owner who can't afford a safe. I think laws should provide extra jail time for firearms theft.

Have you noticed that those most vocal about gun control are also those most vocal about going easy on criminals?
 
Omitting sports, NCIS is probably my favorite tv show. Getting older and more forgetful has some advantages. One is that I can dvr NCIS reruns on USA and they seem like new.

A remarkable thing about NCIS is that its gone 11 seasons (about 250 episodes) and is still worth watching. Consequently, the show's writers need to twick the show a bit. I suspect that's what's going on with the Ziva/Bishop change. They also changed the Kate character when Ziva came aboard.

I actually liked Kate's character a little better than Ziva's but still liked the show as much. The plot matters. I didn't think much of the Mossad thing with Ziva. I think they're stumbling around a bit with Bishop's character but maybe it just that it takes a while to get used to something new.

As far as NCIS LA, I like the chemistry there too. The maturing of Nell and the possible relationship with Eric adds a little suspense as well as the situation with Kensi and Deeks.

I wondered about that, a couple of years ago, and looked her up.

She has a birthmark in her eye. I didn't know that was possible, but apparently that's the deal.
 
I lost what little use I had for NCIS back in an episode where they were supposed to be organizing a search party in rural Virginia to look for some lost sailor or something. Every "local" they found was a bucktoothed, long haired hillbilly poacher, right out of Lil' Abner. The only "good" person in town was the poor lonely park ranger trying to save the bears from the evil hunters.

Hogwash...

We won't even talk about the palm trees at "Oceana NAS", or being able to get from Quantico to Tidewater Va. in just a couple of minutes. And we can't forget Virginia's mythical "gun registration" computer they have on beck and call.

Don't get me started on Abby. Is that girl EVER going to grow up?
 
There has been a lot of idiocy on the show.

The "evil gun" show

The pregnant Marine Christmas show, where Ziva, having two pistols (one with 13 rounds, one with 5, so not a lot of ammo to waste) jumps off a counter and, while in the air, is firing both guns simultaneously.

The skinny lawyer tries to bust Gibbs, so the whole team quits and takes the blame for everything, so Gibbs if off the hook. They send him to Iran, where he is ambushed, and he draws one gun from his hip and second from his ankle and is shooting bad guys with both simultaneously.

And my personal favorite. Ziva tracks the man that killed her father to the ship, and has him at gunpoint in the corridor, and he says, "I know you won't shoot an unarmed man in the back", turns his back and walks away. And this TRAINED MOSSAD ASSASSIN, with umpteen-dozen kills to her credit, watches him walk off and does not shoot.

I still enjoy it.
 
On the current TV landscape (yech), NCIS is still one of the better ones, even with the anti-gun cues and so many seasons.

Nowadays, my wife and I are more looking forward to the next episode of Blacklist on NBC than the next episode of NCIS.
 
This Harmon guy is quite the paradox, anti gun, and had Gary Cooper as a hero? Gary was raised on a ranch in Montana, he grew up with guns, he shot Weatherby Rifles. His other hero was a gun packing cowboy?

I saw him play football, he did not go to the pros because he knew how good he wasn't.

If I sound a little bitter you may be right. I do not like hypocrites nor do I support them.

I've always felt the fantasy of Hollywood is not left on the set by too many of their residents.

Kudos to him for saving the boys.

I do not watch the show, when I did watch TV I never continued watching any that promoted hate towards legal firearms owners.

Hawaii 5-0 was one I detested for the fantasy, for the anti-gun mentioned above and it was hard to get into a character who's ego filled a complete 25" TV screen.
 
I agree with the unrealistic nature of the show. I view it strictly as entertainment. One of the big things I've wondered about is why the developer of the program chose NCIS as opposed to Homeland, FBI, or some other more notable enforcement agency. NCIS is portrayed as the most competent agency, routinely hacking into HL, FBI, and CIA data. NCIS is what they call in when the FBI can't get the job done.

Whatever the exaggeration on NCIS, it's in multiples on NCIS LA. Now, Kensi is in Afghanistan as a sniper to assassinate a traitor. Right, an NCIS in a war zone serving as a sniper. I've heard the Marines have some pretty good ones.
 
Where are y'all getting that Harmon is anti-gun?

The link given goes to the "trivia" page on IMDB, where someone says "Harmon is anti-gun".

No proof. Nothing to back that up. Just "Harmon is anti-gun".

Before y'all tar him with the "anti-brush", could you show something BESIDES one statement on a trivia page?
 
Yep, the defective body armor episode may be the worst yet. Sad to see the show struggling, but it has had a long run. Harmon's wooden, expressionless face has gotten a bit tiresome, and now they have "Bishop" who reminds me, with respect to acting ability, mostly of the "Bishop" in the "Alien" movie. Tony's routines are growing old and a grown-up McGee isn't much fun, either. Director Vance has always been extremely unlikeable, but then Jenny Shepard's credentials always seemed a bit thin for that position. At least agent Lee has gone away. And the already unbelievable Abby now states "I hate guns, Gibbs"....Gibbs: "I know, Abs." Crisp writing, guys. Now, if they could figure out a way to bring back Mike Franks...

I agree with the security aspect, and I do secure mine in a safe, but I don't want or need the federal government making me do it. THAT'S were the "control" goes bad.
 
There's GUN CONTROL and there's gun control. "Almost" everyone agrees on some degree of control. Some alot more than others and what I see as "anti-gun" might be substantially different than what someone else means.
 
As to NCIS, Ziva somehow went from Mossad killer early on to girly-girl in the last couple of seasons (for which I blame the writers). I'm willing to give Bishop a shot. What has made NCIS a hit (IMO) was the relationships between the characters. I don't know if NCIS: LA cracked that code on that, but the first couple of episodes might as well have starred movable cardboard cutouts for all the personality they had.

As to Hawaii Fifty...they're just being true to the original. Jack Lord was the original anti-gun actor.
 
I guess I stuck with the show mainly because they usually showed respect for the Armed Forces. It was pretty much the only "network" show I watched. I never got upset with the plot lines, it's Hollyweird after all. But the writing has gotten so weak it's painful to watch anymore. If I want anti-gun, I'll watch one of Mike Wolf's shows (L&O etc.) And the recent off-show collaboration of Michael Weatherly and Sarah Silverman clinched it for me. With 200 channels on the dish, lack of dreck to watch is not a problem.

The sad thing is, that there are lame-os out there who really believe that "only criminals will carry guns" ****. AND they believe shows like NCIS, and Hawaii Five-0.

Our "Boys and Girls in Blue" aren't out there for our personal protection. They protect "the community at large." Check out your local police cruiser, it no longer says "protect and serve." It says something else.

I had not noticed. I'll have to take a closed look! That expression was always a lie.............feel good to the public!

You and me, we, who choose to protect ourselves with weapons, classes, learning, awareness, security protocols, security systems around our homes and businesses, we are Our Own Personal Security.

Yep. Fortunately, "most" of us will never have to...but, Be Prepared.

I have trouble figuring out what NCIS LA has to do with the Navy. The only connection I can consistently see is that the LL character is a former SEAL.
 
The "HEAD SLAP" is way too violent for me and those get ups that Abby wears gives me nightmares !!

I never under stood the LA show.........
They are going every where and who is their "BOSS" any way??!!
The little old lady or the tall guy with the bent nose ?? :D

At least he has a halfway nice haircut................
 
This week's episode was horrible. Mark Harmon is very anti-gun and I believe and executive producer, so I can see how it gets written into the show. He is also a huge hypocrite (just like 99.99% of Hollyweird) by being anti-gun but making millions of dollars playing a character who carries a gun.

I guess he justifies it by only cops and military should have guns. He is a good actor but a hypocrite.
The character of Abbey was also extremely annoying with her stupid "I hate guns" this episode. While it was cute and funny, 12 years (or however it has been on) later, her character is annoying as h*ll.

The last couple of years the show is truly showing how long in the tooth it is. It is still mostly better than everything else on TV (except for Justified), but it is going down hill fast.

The new girl is ok but not great. NCIS: LA is even worse and I have read where they are doing a third spinoff.
 
I usually watch the show, my biggest gripe is the same as all the other 'cop' shows - Police, agents, investigators, public employees are always portrayed as the best of the best, beyond question, above reproach, pure of soul, clean as the wind driven snow. Meanwhile, anyone who is not a federal employee or in the private sector are greedy, evil, sociopaths, cheats, profiteering dirtbags.
 
The new NCIS spinoff is NCIS New Orleans. Not sure if the decision is final but the plan is to send Gibbs to NO on a case this spring and go from there. This is how they spun off NCIS LA.
 
Became a hard core fan a few years ago while stuck at home recuperating from a motorcycle crash and caught up via reruns on USA Network.

Hated this latest episode (the mindless anti-gun drivel and ending shootout, oh please) and feel the show should really be put to rest. Let it end with Gibbs retiring back to his home town to take over his dad's store after his dad's funeral (now that Ralph Waite has passed), Tony reconnects with Ziva and leaves to go live quietly with her and someone, anyone punches whiney Abbey in the face!

Ducky can retire and go teach part time at some college passing on his years of experience. Yup, that would do just fine.
 
Wikipedia says" Donald P. Bellisario is co-creator, along with Don McGill, as well as executive producer." Bellisario has produced a lot of shows and made a lot of $$ doing so. I believe the character McGee is his stepson and a few other relatives of his appear regularly.
