Any reason to buy full size M&P

It's just fun to have them both! FS .40 and .40c for me!!! I'm opposite of you, bought the FS 1st.

I would never give anyone a reason not to buy a FS, that is what I carry, or any gun. :)

I bought the 40c maybe 2 years ago....so far I love the gun and carry it often. The gun just seems to fit my hand perfect. I worked a little OT this last weekend and have $600 or so to spend. I was thinking of picking up a fullsize. To anyone who has both would there be any reason to buy the fullsize when you already own the compact?

I would always ask that question the other way around, as I do not have issues with the full size. Thus, I would ask if there is any reason to acquire the compact. :)

Personally, I think the full size M&P feels better in the hand, holds more rounds, has less felt recoil, has a better sight radius so it is easier to shoot well, and balances better. Naturally, these things are personal choice, and if you regularly carry, you should try one and see if you can live with it. If not, it still makes a nice home defense gun.

I'll go with the revolver suggestion if you don't have one. As I added to my stuff I started by getting examples of what appealed to me in the different categories. Kind of went like this...

M66-1 4"...first gun!
1911 full size
PPK/S in .380
6906

These were my first 4 guns and every one of 'em offered a different shooting experience...I had lot's of fun figuring out what I liked and how to be proficient with the different platforms. Over time I filled gaps in frame sizes and calibers with a very good idea of what I wanted and why. Some filled a role and some were just 'cause I wanted one (or two!). While my original PPK/S remains my only .380 (I did buy another but one of my daughters now has it) and I have only one .357sig, an M&Pc, I have multiples of 9's, revolvers, 40's and 45's. I selected every one for a reason and with the exception of the M66 I have never sold a gun...they were hand picked to suit my tastes and I love 'em all!:)

My point is that I suggest you branch out and experience other stuff before you start duplicating. If it were me and I wanted my 1st .45 I would have to go with a 1911 just because it is an example of an iconic gun every gun lover should have (at least one). Then if you really love the 45acp and you really love your M&P you now know that you would probably REALLY love an M&P in 45acp! Then as you go along you will end up with multiple guns (many in the same caliber) but they are all different and provide satisfaction in their own way.:)

I'm not going to say I won't sell any of my guns but each one is special to me in some way...that's why I have it. But this evolution has prevented the buy and sell, buy and sell process that I see other go through...no problem with buy and sell if that's their thing but guns aren't cheap! JMHO.;)

Probably no reason to but why not. I started with the FS, then bought the 5" pro, then I felt I needed something for summer carry and got the 9c and then bought the shield on impulse.. But don't regret it

You can also buy the grips and use fullsize mags with ur compact

Nope, absolutely no reason to buy a full size gun. In fact, there's no reason to buy any gun at all. We have police to protect us and grocery stores to provide food. So why would anyone need a gun. Even the thought is just silly.

I love my full size M&P's...but this thread brings up a question I ask - what is the difference between a Shield and a "C"? I have been thinking of buying a more compact pistol than the M&P and wonder what the difference is? They seem similar...

My apologies if this has been discussed previously.

Personally, I've discovered that I like having firearms from several different manufacturers that I like. Love the nuances and training for the differences and strengths for each.

And yes, revolvers, too. My wife is a big 686 fan.

But that's me.

Edit...I do not deviate from my primary and secondary carry options. I dont mess around there!

If I'm not mistaken, a tad smaller overall, and a single stack mag instead of a double stack. So the width of the grip would be the biggest difference. I think you can go to S&W site and do a comparison between a shield and "C" to find the exact specs.

Come on man, do at least a little of your own research. Not to mention how far off topic this is.

A 2 second Google search brought up hundreds of pics like these:

I certainly hope this answers your question.

My apologies to the OP for this hijack.

cbr6864,

If you like the 40C, you would love a Pro. I have a 9mm Pro and love it. I have a XDM 5.25 and a Glock 17. I like the M&P Pro over the both. I am looking the get a smaller M&P for carry.

I live in south texas hot and humid as can be so the smaller the gun the better. If I bought a fullsize it wouldn't be for dedicated carry just something to have really.

I have a 40C and a 45C, and really like them both. The 40C is my favorite carry gun. It's a pretty small package for 10+1.

The 45C is really more of a mid-size gun. Still small enough to carry, but more of a Commander-size gun. That would be a nice size gun in 9 & 40.

I would say check out the Pro series 5 inch models. The longer sight radius and reduced felt-recoil might be worth it!
