There seems to be several companies that offer firearm theft insurance. Some I'm sure are "better" and more comprehensive than others. Appreciate your recommendations. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. Yes, Im the NRA. However I'm seeking insurance in addition to small coverage provided by the NRA. A "rider" on my homeowners insurance is not practical / cost prohibitive for what I need. A search of the Forum produced previous threads mentioning a firm called Collectables Insurance LLC. Anyone have any first hand experience with them? Thanks...

I tried to add coverage from USAA for my collection. While they are my "go to" insurance co for most things, my experience has been outside their areas of focus they tend to be expensive. They were way to expensive for collection insurance. One of the forums mentioned Collectibles Insurance Service in PA, they are very reasonable. They will want an inventory, and what safeguards you have. You can probably google them. I've got about 70K coverage for $370 per year. Of course I've not put in a claim and that is the real test. When I read about them the first time, it was somebody who had good experience on a claim. Take your time and check around.

Insurance in much larger amounts can be purchased by members through the NRA. I think it costs about 1% of the desired amount. Go to the NRA website and check it out. They do not require itemization or serial numbers.

Get added coverage from NRA insurance underwriter, Lockton Affinity. Knowledgeable people. No appraisals needed. Only more expensive guns must be registered with them.

Another vote for the gun safe. Insurance can't replace firearms with sentimental value. A good safe can not only protect your guns against fire, but stop them from being stolen in the first place. I would hazard a guess that a very high percentage of home burglaries are of the 10 minute or less variety where the thieves are interested in only what they can get in a short period of time. Even more experienced thieves won't know how to open a safe, nor will be willing to expend the effort unless you live someplace very remote.

I will add that my safes protect a lot more than just guns too. Camera equipment, coins, jewelry and important papers are in there too.

House two doors up from me burned last fall. 7 fire trucks in the street. A safe would not have saved guns.

i'm sure my little collection is far smaller than many on the forum, but besides keeping them in a safe i did add a rider to our homeowner policy. Doing that gives me no deductible (if just under my home policy i would have dealt with the std deductible on a claim), full replacement, and i covered mags, etc.
And as others have stated, its low cost protection for some piece of mind

Eastern Insurance - you pick the blanket dollar amount of insurance coverage you want and you're done. No itemized list of the insured guns or accessories. $250 deductible. You can get $100K of coverage for $314/year.

I'm with the others who recommended a quality safe.

I once asked about insurance, and at the price I was quoted, I could buy enough guns to replace my collection every few years.
