Any TC Encore Experts Out There?

I have been using my Encore with a 15" .308 Winchester barrel for deer hunting for quite a few years. I recently bought a NIB .223 barrel and have been having trouble with it's function.

You have to hit the back of the trigger guard real hard with the back of your hand to get it to open. Once open it closes just fine. The original barrel opens and closes very easy.

Oil does not improve it. A visual inspection of the 2 barrels shows no obvious differences.

Anyone have a similar experience?

The Contenders are the same way, I had barrels that were hard to open. The locking lugs needed to be stoned (no file) till they open easily. Clean the lungs off and coat them with magic marker. Then mount the barrel and open & close a few times. See where the marker comes off, then stone only the flat part that fits under the frame to lock up. May take a while. This is what I have done in the past. Having arthritis, this makes it easier to have fun shooting.

Search Encore hard to open, plenty of info out there. You may have a different problem, or a combination of things. Larry

Thanks for your reply. Actually I did that search before I posted here and didn't seem to find anything that seemed to fit my issue.

I bought the barrel 2 years ago and shot it with no issues at all. A few months ago I switched tom my deer barrel and then just recently switched back. That's when the problem began. Thus, I figured it must be something I'm missing since it worked before.

I followed your instructions and was surprised that it now worked again. However, after a dozen openings and closings the magic markers were ALL still intact.

I lubed it up well and tried it again for 2 dozen times. It worked flawlessly for 23 times, and stuck once again.

Back to the drawing board.

I’m waiting to see how this turns out. I only have 2 barrels. 410/45 and 243. I’ve never had a problem with either. But this will be good info for future reference.

That is weird but I have experienced it myself. Searching the lug stoning it actually said not to lube the lugs. I don’t understand it, lube causes things not to wear with usage over time. I lube my lugs, Larry

Lubing the lugs, especially over lubing can cause them to come open under recoil is the explanation I heard.

OK, so I tried wiping all the oil off. Didn't help. I did learn, though, that if you keep the trigger pulled back when closing, it then opens perfectly the next time. But you have to do that every time.
