Any thoughts on the Model 21 (44 special)?

I'm debating between buying a Ruger Super Blackhawk and a Model 21 (4 inch). If I buy the SBH (probably 4 5/8 version), it will be mostly fired with 44 specials. Either one would be new.

Just looking for any thoughts from those who own or have owned the Model 21. I've handled the SBH, but have never seen a Model 21. I did own a Model 28 many years ago.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Well I have both gun's and really like them both, but for 44 Special use I would give the M-21 the nod. My standard load of a cast 240 SWC and 7.0 grain's of Unique is a good one in my 21. If you decide to go single action, I could suggest another gun, the Ruger flat top in 44 Special is a very accurate and lighter in weight than the SBH. Both of mine are target grade shooter's. It is now a Ruger catalog model.

The SBH is a hunter's piece built to let handloaders use every bit of the 44 Mag's versatility. It's heavy and it will need a trigger job.

The M-21 is a carry gun. It has fixed sights zeroed for a 240-gr. slug at 750 fps. You can run that bullet to 1,200 fps, but it will kick like a mule and won't shoot to the sights if you do. Get it if you want a serious big-bore carry gun and you have the discipline to stick to one load.

A S&W 44 Mag or Ruger 44 Special with adjustable sights would split the difference nicely.

I have owned 2 model 21s and they are very nice guns. I like adjustable sights due to my old eyes though.Bud's gun shop have the 21s at close out at present.552.00 nickel and 569.00 blue with oversize wood grips. Delivered. You could not go wrong with either.

I have the TRS in .44 special, love the gun and the concept, the older I get and depend on one load for each handgun, the better I like fixed sites. Its funny, we all want easy to see fixed sites on our 1911s, but somehow they aren't as good on a revolver? But that is what sells guns and keeps us all interested in this fascinating sport.

I own a 21 and it needs a taller front sight. It shoots high with everything I run through it. Nice gun though. Mine doesn't get as much sun as my 24's/624's with adj. sights.
Got the ruger flat top .44 spl.. They are nice too.
