Best .357 S&W Makes
Own a TRR8 and M&P R8. My favorite revolvers, hands down, for action, balance, weight, capacity, accuracy. Versatile. M&P has a permanent lower rail, so Simply Rugged made me a holster that would accommodate that. Prefer the TRR8 sights to the M&P R8.
Narrow stock grips handle .357 Magnum loads without pain up through 550 ft. lbs. of energy. Past that get some big wooden Hogues and you can shoot virtually any load comfortably.
They typically deliver with fairly heavy action. My TRR8 went to TK Custom for an action job.
The R8's are the best S&W revolvers made, and for the money, arguably the best revolver period. Korth/Nighthawk Mongoose is the only revolver I prefer to the R8's, but they're $3,499.
1. TRR8 with Hogue wooden grips, Aimpoint optic, and Speed Beez holster. Speed Beez can not be used with the M&P R8 due to the permanent lower rail.
2. M&P R8
3. PC TRR8 with all rails removed laying next to weapon along with a PC 627 UDR and PC 586 L-Comp.
4. Extreme accuracy due to shrouded barrel design. Two shot group at approximately 70 meters from a tree stand with optic and rest. Federal Premium Barnes .357 Magnum.

Have had my R8 for about a month. I have an Eotec holographic site on it. Absolutely my favorite 30-100 yard handgun,especially in low light conditions. Ive been feeding mine all sorts of ammo and it will string rounds vertically from low speed .38 specials to full house .357s,but that is to be expected. It is my first "lock" revolver and I'm glad I got over my distaste for the whole lock controversy to buy the R8 at it is a winner. I left the stock Goodyears on it and they are fine. Trigger is good out of the box..breaking at about 4lbs SA and 12 DA. I honestly can't think of any feature I don't like..except the hole in the side..but like warts,it will grow on you..
It does take some getting use to having 8 rounds instead of 6 after decades of shooting 6 shooters. Bravo to S&W for coming out with this tactical revolver.

Such a fun gun considering it was designed for such a serious purpose.
It's the one revolver in my collection that wears an optic. The moonclip option is great too.
I bought mine used and it sees only a diet of 38 specials. The only issue I had (and I'm not alone) is that you need to watch (or locktite) the strain screw to avoid the potential for light strikes.
Such a fun gun considering it was designed for such a serious purpose.

That is a created issue by the user.
Adjusting the strain screw is not the proper method to tune a trigger's pull. You can adjust the arc in the leaf spring within limits. Straightening the power band for a heavier pull and vice versa. Or, ideally, go to slightly lighter leaf springs that will maintain the springs proper arc and lighten the pull while maintaining a reliable primer strike.
Seat the strain screw and leave it.

i have the R8, as previously mentioned it's a great shooter, i use hand loaded .357 Mag only thru it. approx 3K rounds. vortex razor red dot

I've had an R8 for a few years now.
Pros: Good trigger out of the box, very accurate, very well balanced, 8 shot capacity, ability to add accessories to the rails, lots of fun to shoot.
Cons: I can't really find a use for this gun. I'm never going into combat, don't shoot competition, and I have better guns for target shooting and carry, so it sits at home most range trips.

I can't really find a context where I can't use it. You wouldn't choose this weapon for combat in the first place. I can't imagine a better target gun in .357/.38 with the seriously accurate (post#4 pic 4) shrouded barrel design and excellent DA and SA. I carry concealed somewhat regularly with a Simply Rugged Pancake Sourdough holster except in significant Summer heat. It is a premiere non-concealed carry for the woods anytime. Slap the top rail on and an Aimpoint it is amazing for hunting (see pic above). Just slap the bottom rail on and a Streamlight TLR 2 HL G and it is premiere home defense weapon. One could go on.

I really like my R8. It looks cool, it shoots great and straight. No complaints. 8 rounds of 357 is impressive.

Is my favorite of 3 N frames that I have in 357 and the newest of the lot. 65th birthday present to myself. I too have the simply rugged pancake with straps to go IWB though haven't done that yet. What is not to like balance weight aesthetics and 8 round.
I have owned a R8 for a couple of months now. I love it so far after about 200 rounds through over three range sessions. Here's a link to my thread about it in case you have not seen it.

I bought mine 6 weeks ago - I paid a bundle on the only gun I could find at the time - but boy, it shoots the lights out!
