New member here. Just picked up a Cs9 to replace my p365xl. I love everything about the gun except the God awful hogue grips. I've read about delrin grips being modified to fit but I dont trust myself to not screw up multiple grips in the process. Is there anybody still modifying grip like Tercgen was a few years ago?

Still got the "Goodyears" on mine but would not mind trying those Tercen grips.

Hey, great first post and question. Welcome aboard.

It seems TercGen has gone underground. I keep “suggesting” that our overly talented guzzitaco pick up on these grip mods. In his spare time of course. I don’t think anyone is currently doing the mod. I agree with you in that I personally ruined three grips trying to do it myself and I’m above average talent wise. That’s not a good thing cause there’s three less available of non renewable product.

The Big Dog grip mod was nice but TercGen perfected and eclipsed it. The KSD’s are an option and look good but they mimic the CS’s factory width. The TercGen’s do show up here in the accessories/misc for sale section.

I have checked out the KSD's but it doesn't seem like they're any better/thinner. If I had half the woodworking talent my grandpa had I'd buy a set and modify them to be thinner. Guess for the time being I'll keep an eye on the for sale section.

I wrote this up for someone a long time ago...
Hope it helps.

That is my CS9 finished.
Also a comparison of the grip sizes.

I resisted buying the TerGen grips for a long time, but finally gave in. Ironically, I put a grip sleeve on top because on of the things I don't like about the OEM grips is that they feel slick in my hand.

That said, the OEM grips fit my hand better with or without the grip sleeve.

CS9 Thinner Grips

I bought a set of TercGen's grips right before I stopped carrying my CS9, transitioned to a Springfield EMP and then back to S&W with the M&P Compact Optic Ready.

The grips TercGen made are the absolute best, he is a very talented fellow, have not heard from him in quite a while so hope all is well with him and that he just moved on to other interest. I am saving the set he made in my safe along with the CS9. Prior to getting TercGen's grips I had modified a set of Hogue 3913 grips to fit the CS9. That gave the CS9 a slimmer and more comfortable grip for me than the stock grips.

Well I ended up buying a 3913tsw grip and attempting it myself. Not extremely happy with the results but it does feel 100x's better in my hand. Only bad part was I went a little too far on sanding down the main spring retainer (which i cant find any new ones) and ended up going through in one spot.

I had TercGen make a set of grips for me using 3906 grips which have a curved backstrap unlike the normally used 3913 grips which have straight backstraps, and he did an excellent job.

Their shape went well when paired with the Kahr magazine base plates.

I knew going in that the Delrin grips have always tended to have a slippery feel for me, especially when my hands are cold & dry, as GaryS also said for him, but I gave it a try anyway.

I too ended up putting grip sleeves on it but they loosen up after a while & feel mushy when they no longer fit snugly giving a less than secure feel.

The last item that caused me "grief" about them was the very angular heel of the grip lending to be more likely to print when carried AIWB. Admittedly the 3906 grip possibly accentuated this.

So I ended up selling them & going back to the Hogue grips but first I used my Dremel, with a small sanding drum on it, to re-shape them.

First I rounded the heel then I removed what I could to taper the vertical edges of the backstrip, also working the backstrap's hump to lessen it.

You are limited on how much of the softer rubber you can remove as the grips are layered so go slow.

I liked the improvement so much I plan on doing the same thing to my CS40's grips. :)

I sure would like to find someone doing these grips too.
I have a CS45 I'd like to have a set made for.
I'm pretty good at making / modifying stuff too, but the right grips (45136 / 4516 IIRC?) are getting harder to find and I don't want to screw up a couple of sets trying to get them to fit right.
Anybody have any idea what happened to Tercgen? It seems odd for someone so active on the board to just vanish like that. Especially a skilled craftsman.

main spring retainer

To get a new main spring retainer I had to buy a whole new set of Hogue grips for a 3906.
I think I found them on Amazon for about $30 !!!
