Anybody Still Like the Music of the Greatest Generation?

Listen to it all the time!! I have more of that in my iPod than anything else.

My 10 year old daughter even likes the old stuff. We get on youtube and listen to the Andrew Sisters, Glenn Miller and others. One of her favorites is Girl from Kalamazoo but all time favorite is Boogee Woogee Bugle Boy from Company B.

You overlooked the tune of an M-1 Garand's empty enbloc clip being ejected and striking the ground?

My car CD changer is loaded with a mix of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw and (I'm almost ashamed to admit)Spike Jones.

Is there any other kind of music?

Seriously folks, popular music went to hell starting in about 1954 with the beginning of rock and roll. Yes, there has been good music since then...but not much! The crap we have to endure now had it's beginnings then.

Good God Guys; This brought back some great memories. I'm an old duck almost 78 & I remember when Glenn Miller went in the English Channel in 1944. Body never recovered but his music lived on. I've danced to his music many times & would today if possible.Gutpile has it right.

Always liked Big Band music; sort of grew up listening to it. Went to a college homecoming in 1963; Harry James and his orchestra played.

I was impressed. Still am.

...I love watching Jimmy Stewart in "The Glenn Miller Story"...especially when the men's marching is a little lackluster on the drill field...and he strikes up a rousing rendition of the "St. Louis Blues"...we used to play it when I was in the high school band...an inspirational piece of music to be sure...

Not only do I love it, I PERFORM it as a member of the wonderful Georgia Big Band! As a trumpeter, there's no better music on the planet and I'm blessed to be able to do it with outstanding musicians!

Most members of the group are recently retired or current US Air Force musicians, plus a couple of former Army bandsmen (myself included), and even a former Glenn Miller Band bass player. Most of us also majored in music in college and have been playing for decades.

I play the "ride" chair in the trumpet section and have been playing the horn for over 47 years continuously now. I'll post a few youtube links below for you big band lovers from a recent Miller Tribute concert we did.

I always liked The Duke. Used to play in a 15 piece big band. We were the house band at the local Elks club back when the WWII vets were in their 50's. Want to read a good book that mixes music with WWII? "Foot Soldier" or "Inside the Battle of the Bulge" (same book, different titles) by Roscoe "Rocky" Blunt.

I love the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and others of the era. That is real music!
I keep my i-pod loaded with what I call music of Ladies and Gentlemen.

Wjeelgunner, that is about thebest description of this music I have heard yet. it really is for Ladies and Gentlemen.
