That one is in the best shape I've ever seen for a 75 year old Outdoorsman box.

Someone that doesn't work for an hourly wage needed it for a high condition revolver and bought it. :)

Wealthy collectors pay whatever it takes for what they want.

These boxes can bring almost a thousand apiece...

... the guns that are inside them, six to ten thousand (or more).

I've seen people pay $200-$400 for ratty ones...............price seems in-line with condition.
Furthermore, how often do these boxes come for sale (in this condition)?

I do not get the "mint" gun thing.

I like to shoot my best guns and I do not want them losing value each time I pull the trigger or rack the action.

Gone but not forgotten....

Drew - was that 20 years ago?
Please post eye candy for us - you know we like pictures!!!

Nope, not even ten years ago... sadly, I lost it in a mega swap that included a 5-screw pre-29, a mint 6" pre-27 (ramp front sight) and a mint pre-23.

Wow Bobby! Hadn't seen that.

I've bought mint boxes like that before for less, and they had equally mint ODsman's in them.

Well,I have one (gun and box) that while not mint,I have exactly $558 invested. I guess I'm just a tight-wad. I bought the gun off GA for $500 shipped about 5 years ago and the box from a forum member for $58 shipped less than two years ago. I bought a second box from another forum member last year for $85,but it was pretty ratty. I've never had deep pockets,so I have to look for bargains. :o

That box really isn't pristine. I just posted the best pic. It's got a few wrinkles and warts and some writing in pencil going halfway across the lid. Blow up the pic and you can see it starting in the upper left-hand corner. Sometimes your eyes can fool you. ;)

Bobby, I think I've got that beat...

Michael Stern GAVE me this box about a 100 years ago... :)

You win! Nice gift. Mr. Stern is one of those gentlemen I referred to in a previous thread that I miss from the old days on the forum. You haven't conned him out of all of those Roper's yet, have you? Or does Many have 'em? :D

Actually I gave and traded a bunch of Ropers to Michael about 10 years ago... they fit S&W, Colt's and H&Rs. As signifigant as they are, I never reallly warmed up to Ropers... heresy I know! :)

These have been posted before by RKMesa. The one on the bottom right is pretty close. Again, you'll have to blow up the pic for a better idea.

The bottom right box is for a K-22 Masterpiece ("22/40") and is actually nicer than the OP box that recently sold on ebay. I followed the auction closely and even bid what I thought it was worth, which was significantly less than what it finally sold for. I probably would have bid higher than I did if I did not have boxes for all of my pre-war K-22's, but I think/hope that I would have had the restraint to stop short of the final bid...then again, maybe not... (a boxless K-22 O/D, combined with a beautiful box AND auction fever is a combination for financial disaster)

A fellow forum member helped me out with the box in my photo. I paid what I believe was the high end of the market for a high end box in outstanding condition and I think that both he and I were happy with the transaction.:) It is a nice addition to a fairly rare gun.

Here's a bit closer photo of the 22/40 Masterpiece Box:
