Anyone at Talladega today?

Looked to me like the second car that hit him made him airborn. The first bump spun him around but looks like he may have just hit the wall. Not that hitting the wall is a bargain, look what happened to Dale.

I think you are correct. The rear-end of Edwards car started to lift from the initial bump, then Newman came in under Edwards rear end while it was light (maybe even off the ground) and launched Edwards car fully into the air. I suspect Edwards car would have settled to the track and stayed upright had it not met with Newmans car that was traveling at full speed.

Newman is fortunate that Edwards car impacted his hood/engine area and not up into the windshield. The windshield opening in the roll cage is one of the larger minimally protected openings in the entire cage structure. You can't put a lot of bracing in that opening for obvious reasons. It does have some bracing in the center part but it is still a rather large (by necessity) opening.

Restrictor plate races.

When Nascar added the plate, the whole game changed and a lot of the sport went away.

The old dega sling-shot pass was a sight to see and I really miss it.

Nascar today just does not have the same spark as it did in the 70 and early 80's.
