Anyone drive on studded tire?

I US THEM ON MY 2 WD FRONTIER
i HAVE THEM MOUNTED ON A SET OF WHITE SPOKE RIMS
SO I DON'T HAVE TO DISMOUNT THEM
MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE ON THE ICE

We don't use them on the AWD Subarus, but did on the FWD Toyotas and Ford Focuses we had before. When I was on 24 hour call and just had to go (and was exempt from road closures because of my job), I would put them on the first day they were legal because of some of the places I had to go, but I took them off as soon as I was confident I would not need them (such as not being on call). I would drive to the Schwab store and WALK home to make sure I was legal, so it really ground my butt to have some idiot put them on early or leave them on late. I would write tickets for it at 0001 AM on the first day they were prohibited, and actually would take the day off from my regular job work patrol.

The clowns in the People's Republic of the I5 Corridor who oppose studs because they rarely get any benefit from them forget that the livable part of the state has some pretty rugged places in it. Considering that there is never enough money put into snow removal (close an Interstate that is by far the best way to cross the state? Really? Are you high?), there is little choice but to invest in the studs if you are in more rugged areas.

I still recall going to a LE legal advisors' meeting one month and getting all kinds of odd feedback about the flurries on Snoqualmie being a big deal. Heck, it was not even a foot of snow, and the biggest pain was the congestion from semis being forced to put on chains for no good reason.

the only time I saw a set of studded tires, they were hangin up in the neighbors farm shed, well out of the way, since they weren't legal back in 78 either

It's kind'a funny reading about how only an inch or two can cripple the big Southern towns on flat ground!

I can tell you for sure it's not all the same...

The Cherohala Skyway goes from 900' to over 5,000' in a few miles.. so the road can change really fast!

And loads of fun in a sports car! :D

They have had a one day snow fall of over 4' on the Skyway... and over 5' on
Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Yeah, come down for a visit when we have one of our "little snows".. might be able to show ya a road you just may not understand! :D

Cherahala Skyway. I rode that a couple years back on the Harley while down south on my annual summer ride. A lot of fun. It was the middle of July and about 100 degrees at the bottom. Up top I had the leathers on. Did the "Dragon" also.
