Anyone else get recently interested in a different type of firearm?

Interestingly yes, I've been on this "evil black gun" kick lately. I never had much of an interest in them until about 6 months ago. I bought one and then decided I needed to build one.

Same here. I've built 2 this year. Not sure how much I like them yet.

I built what is essentially an A2 HBAR in .223 Wylde. Topped with an old 3-9 Weaver, it probably weighs 9 lbs. Its fun to shoot when I can get out to the range (vs the indoor right up the street.)

The other is a .300 Blackout pistol. It's proving finicky with handloads, and $1-per for factory (if you can find it) isn't gonna cut it.
I got a bargain on a 7.5" Faxon barrel, but I'm wishing I'd gone longer, or built a carbine.

Watching "Peaky Blinders" got me interested in Webleys, but taking on a whole new platform and two new calibers in the same year sucked up all my bandwidth for tinkering.

My interest in black powder revolvers was re-kindled during the scamdemic, but I don't think there is any connection other than coincidence, since I have plenty of modern guns and ammo and ammo loading components for them.

I bought these five since this spring. From top to bottom:

Uberti Colt Walker, 44 caliber.

Uberti Colt Model 1861, 36 caliber

ASM Colt third Model Dragoon, 44 caliber, with folding leaf sights and mounting hardware for a detachable stock.

Uberti (?) defarbed Griswold & Gunnison brass-framed revolver (as made in the Confederacy during the Civil War), 36 caliber.

Uberti Colt London Model 1851, 36 caliber, with shortened 5" barrel, and mounting hardware for a detachable stock (which I have).

Interestingly, the barrels between the 1851 and 1861 revolvers readily interchange, so I can have a standard or short barreled carbine.

Yes.
I have bought four guns in the last year. Not one of them a Smith & Wesson.
I have sold 3, two of which were Smith & Wesson.
Every gun I bought was a shotgun and am going to be picking up an AR next week. Going to give that platform one more chance.

Last week I was at a gun shop I used for FFL for a pistol I bought for Stepdaughter for Christmas. While waiting, a 6" S&W 629-6 caught my eyes. The one guy I asked if he could let me check it out said "This gives me a reason to handle it, too." I never owned or even shot a .44 Magnum, I have (had) two Ruger .327 Fed Mags. The next day I took both down to ask about trading one or the other. They gave me what I thought was a fair price (for a gun shop) on the 5" Lipsey version, and I went home with the Smith & two boxes of ammo. The lock doesn't bother me like it does many of yinz guys. Anyhow, earlier up there I mentioned about a home defense-size shotgun; I didn't know I wanted a .44 magnum!

Not so much new types of firearms but using what I have in new types of shooting, namely, moving targets.
My dad's old 12 G semi auto with IC and 26" barrel makes for an OK skeet gun.
My 22 lever gun and semi auto pistols for the Club gallery range.

I've been thinking about getting a Charter Arms Bulldog in .44 Spl. Oh I can hear the laughing now. I've always wanted one for years. Also an all steel Colt Commander. With our fearless leader here in VA pretty much ruined gun shows I haven't really looked for either. Yeah, I know I can find both on line but I want to look at them in my hand.

I had a very similar experience. I drove from near Gettysburg to a shop in Bucks County, PA above Philly to look at a gun that I got interested in on line. It turned out to be something I wanted so I bought it. And of course, since it was a long trip, I figured I should find another gun shop in the area to check out. There was another gun shop about 5 miles up the same road. So I went up and there was a new Smith & Wesson 629-6 in the case. While I was looking at it, the salesman told me they also had a used gun of the same model. So I looked at the used gun, determined it had a better lockup than the new gun, whipped out the credit card and bought the used one. I didn't know I wanted another .44 Magnum either. That was an expensive trip!

CZ rimfire junkie

I was on the HighSchool and College Rifle teams.... and Summer Camp Rifle Instructor.... after graduating from Law School I started shooting handguns and rarely picked up a .22 rifle

About 8 years ago.... I got a CZ 452FS in .22mag..... as a walking in Penn's Woods varmint rifle...... sighting it in at 100yds and shooting it regularly that summer .... seemed to reawaken my interest in .22 rifle shooting......I've found it very relaxing to spend an hour or two at the Club shooting .22lr at 50 and 100 yds from three positions and off the bench ...... mostly stock sporting models CZs and Rugers scoped and iron sights.

I started to acquire CZ rimfires about 3 years ago. Now have a 452 in 22 LR, four 455s, and a brand new 457. A 455 FS in 17 HMR is a real tack driver at 100 yds. I dialed the scope in on the 457 two days ago. I also have a Ruger #1 in 22 LR (custom job, I suspect), and a few other 22s.

I seldom see any that I would not like to have. I have a thing for Marlin's and have a number of Marlin rifles. I spotted a Marlin model 120 shotgun online and it was only $250.00 and looked like new although it was made in 1982. I bought it and got it home after shipping and transfer for $290. and it is well worth that to me. I didn't need a shotgun and already had my dads old Remington 870.

Last few gun shows I've been on the hunt for a pistol caliber lever gun. Either a Marlin 336 or a Winchester 1894 and probably in .38/.357, though I haven't ruled out a Henry in .41 Mag. But I would prefer side gate loading and I wish Henry would introduce that in their pistol caliber lever guns.

Winchester still markets the 1873 in .357 magnum, although it's manufactured by Moruku. I have one, and it's a beautiful, well built lever action that's suitable for whitetail and self-defense...sweet shooting, and virtually no felt recoil.

That gun DOES look like it's brand new. Nice looking gun!
