Just wondering if I'm the only one who wonders why the bad guy runs away in the video? I also wonder if anyone (anti-gun) watching it asks themselves, "What would I do now after Mr Bad Guy has come through my door if he doesn't want to leave because of an alarm?"

I have been thinking the same thing. If someone is going to break in and they know that you are home, the alarm is not going to stop them.
And don't you just love the way the alarm company calls right away and the police show up? Very miss leading.
Like stated above, it does lower your homeowners.:D

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:..Quick....What to do?..Quick????...Run up stairs:confused:.....to the bedroom......Answer phone.:rolleyes:
Great stuff.

D.G.

Caller - "Broadview Security - Ms. Smith, we just monitored an alarm at your location - are you all right?"

Male voice on the other end of the phone - "Sorry, she can't come to the phone right now, she's being murdered."

This is a more likely scenario . . .

My mental scenario...

Caller - "Broadview Security - Ms. Smith, we just monitored an alarm at your location - are you all right?"

Ms. Smith - "Yes, there's a burglar here"

Brinks Operator - "OK, we're sending the police. Response time is 7 to 15 minutes depending on traffic and available road units."

Ms. Smith - "OK, I'm currently being gagged and raped, so hopefully the police will get here soon before Mr Burglar leaves. My daughter is also here with me and she is eager to see the police as well."

Um...

Don't most burglaries occur when people aren't home?

If a person is home, it's likely a home invasion- and an alarm isn't going to do any good, because the homeowner likely opened the door to the perp(s) with the alarm off. :(

I think that is a very lame commercial. It just doesn't work that way. If he knows your home and he breaks in...then you should take him down. That's all there is to it.

Ha!

Ha ha.. Yeah, it was good. I could not agree with your thoughts more....

It was just a reference to a funny line Star Wars. Sorry about that. It's a recurring problem I have with quoting that movie...

As my wife observed, if the guy is breaking in during broad daylight, the woman and home and her daughter are likely the targets, not merely impediments to a burglary. He'd have plenty of time to snatch them both up and bundle them away in the rape van and head down to Mexico to sell them. A mother/daughter duo is worth... well more than any of the consumer items in their house will be worth. Shrug. The world is a rough place like that.

The biggest problems with alarms is:
1) They use a telephone line which may be cut, or "all systems are busy".
2) Who gets alerted? Are they local or on the other side of the country?
3) Who responds? Do they have their own people come out or do they call the local police? Are their people complete idiots or qualified? Are the local police like mine and completely worthless?
4) Do they automatically dispatch, or call first like in the commercial so the bad guy can hold a gun or knife to your head and tell you what to say?

An audible alarm might scare a burglar away, but in the cases Brinks/Broadview shows in their ads, you'll just get dead faster.

Alarm ad

In real life, when the alarm goes off, the alarm company phones and does NOT ask if you need help...they ask for the "secret word" and if you do not know the secret word they are to immediately notify police to respond ...this is how it is supposed to work...I know this from having accidentally set alarm off at the drugstore where I used to work...when the alarm company called and asked me the secret word I said "polar bear"...they sent the police as the correct word was "polar bears!!!" After talking to them and showing some ID, all was cool...

"This is Broadview Security. Are you alright?"

"Yes, but a man kicked in my door just now!"

"Do you need assistance?"

"Yes! Send ServePro right away! Send an ambulance too. No rush on the ambulance..."
