DISCLAIMER: My posts have been too provocative for some, and may not be suitable for children, overly emotional people, or socially handicapped persons. PLEASE refrain from attacking, ridiculing, or insulting other posters on this thread. If unsure how to procede without being offensive, please consult "Miss Manners". Thanks. START TOPIC: This thread has been suggested by some other members, but I'll start it. I think all good guns should have good holsters to go with them, and should get used. I will not own a gun that I will not use and shoot, so they all get carried, maybe not for CCW, but field carry, etc. Anyone else carry a gun that may not be "mainstream" defensive equipment?

I frequently carry a North American Arms .22 Short revolver in neck pouch. Does that qualify as "not mainstream"?

I see that you are actually reading BarbC's postings. Very good!

Yes, I have done such things, as I stated previously. That was over 35 years ago. On rare occasions since then, I have compromised readiness with a nostalgic choice, usually when I felt no real need to be armed. I should point out, however, that, in an attempt to limit excessive purchase of firearms, I have nearly limited my collection to those that are carry-useful. I own only a few handguns with barrels 6" or over. Thus, I am usually not making compromises even when indulging nostalgia.

Armed or not, I know that I am not invincible. Mostly, I try to be properly prepared.

BTW, FWIW, I have a formerly ambi safety for my SS C*** Gov't Model which has been ground down on the left side to where there is nothing left but a plate. In other words, straight LH safety. I made it for the unlikely event that I would have a broken (right) arm or somesuch, and would need a LH Gov't Model. If I were lefthanded and taking a trip down memory lane with a 1911, I would use that rather than an unmodified gun. An unmodified gun would be historically inaccurate, because if I were lefthanded back whenever, I would darned sure modify the safety of a 1911, especially since they are only parts, and you don't have to get rid of the originals. When I was in the Navy, I always had enough friends that I could get such a thing done. Why pretend otherwise?

Have fun, whatever you do, as long as you don't need to sell it as something else.

Hahaha! Very good!

I wish I had a beautiful collectible to show off. I would indeed carry it around proudly.

When I first posted the other questions, I was just sitting around, musing. Just thought they would be interesting. I'm not doing research, writng a thesis, or trying to get the dirty on anyone. Just interested in a bit of the "unusual". Maybe my next disclaimer will read "don't do any of the things I do". Hell, I'm a parent. I've used that line before......

Sir, FWIW, I almost never switch my "in town" carry gun or holster type. Out in the boonies, I'll carry different guns depending on what I'm doing, but even then I want the holster in the same general location as my "in town" rig.

Of course, YMMV.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I carried a Model 58 as my primary gun for a time. I'm still looking for a holster and perhaps different stocks for my 629-4. It'd make a nice little BUG naturally.

I own lots of guns, almost all of which get shot with varying frequency. Any that are "carryable" have been carried, at least a time or two. While I stick to 1911-types for my primary carry most of the time, I'll occasionally carry a .44 Mountain Gun, my 3" 629, or even my one of my Bowen-converted .38-44s, "just because." Any logic involved? Not often!

I do rotate my collection from time to time for the hell of it, altho I usually stick to my 442 and PF9 as primary and BUG carries out on the town. In the woods I usually carry the 296 and 442, but occasionally the Vaquero. But you've gotten me to thinking, which can be a dangerous thing. I have a replica North & Cheney (.69 caliber flintlock) which I've never carried, except in a case to the range. By cracky, I'm gonna load that bad boy up and stick it in my belt one fine day soon for my morning jaunt in the woods! Thanks, TwoGunsStanding, for planting the seed!

I refuse to own a handgun I dont carry and shoot.
For me... safe queens dont exist.
If I ran across a million dollar 1 of a kind gun... I would shoot it.
If for no other reason than to say I have.

What he said. (I'll bet you all are highly impressed with my eloquence, huh?)

I'm glad I'm not alone. There are many fine guns that live in safes and museums. To own them is much like having money in the bank (maybe better in these times), and you can take them out and pet them, wipe them down carefully, and watch them rise in value and interest. For me, I don't seem to have the big bucks to buy the pristine guns, but one that is a few shades lower in condition or value seems to be "made for me", and if they are 50-90 years old, like they were "made for me yesterday". Shooting my 1925 or 1936 Colt Commercial Government Model takes me back to that era in my mind. Reproductions are nice, and you can shoot the crap out of them and never run down the value of a rare, old gun. However, if I end up shooting one of my old Commercial Colts to the point of cracking the frame, or shooting it loose, wearing off all the blue, etc, then that is what was really SUPPOSED to have happened it its lifetime...that's what the gun was designed for...to be USED. More good old guns deserve to be carried and shot. I think gun collectors miss out on really appreciating the guns for what they are, tools made for the use of man. I know Bo Randall always wanted the buyers of his knives to USE them, not just sit and fondle them in collections. He probably felt at his best when someone showed him an old worn knife that a customer had put many happy miles on. I'm sure Mr. Smith, Mr. Wesson, John Browning and Sam Colt would feel the same way.

This is my rifle.
This is my gun.
This one's not loaded.
This one is. Fun!

I am with you guys!! I don't own a gun that I won't shoot.

I change my carry guns all the time. Sometimes I carry my Bersa Thunder, sometimes my m60, sometimes my Sig P229, sometimes my 3913. I have a Glock 26, G36, that I carry frequently. I have good rigs for all of them. Sometimes it depends on where I am, what I am doing, how well I can conceal given the situation.

I haven't carried my M29 classic, Ruger Redhawk, G17, 686, M52, M41, M19, M66, M14, M15, but I am thinking about it!!!
