Years ago a Mr Coffee would last years and be trouble free. Now that I have gone to pod machines because I only drink one or two cup s in a morning and they are very handy for that. However I have found that all of the many ones I have owned over the years they never last more than a year If I am lucky. My second Keurig this year is starting to give me problems. Last year a Keurig did last almost a year so I bought the stuff Keurig said to use to descale the thing. Never worked again. I have owned other brands and they did no better. I even bought a fancy high dollar one with a programable screen that did all kind of stuff. It lasted 3 months. Anyone using one that is giving them long service and what is the brand? Consumer Reports likes the Keurig but does admit that they are not the most reliable but didn't point out which were.

I think the record for a Kuerig at my house is two years. That was the first one we bought several years ago. Everyone since has given up the ghost in less time since. We don't buy them anymore but we get them as presents. BTW, descaling has about the same effect as a rain dance as far as usable results go.

My Keurig is in its 7th year and is running strong.
I clean / descale it every 2-3 months. I must add that our coffee consumption is way down - we brew 3-6 cups per day on average.
As regards the "pods", we don't use the store-bought ones. My wife and I have vastly different taste in coffee - both strength of brew and "flavor". We use the re-usable pods and recycle the grounds to the compost bin and also sprinkle them around the edges of the patio which discourages the ants.

Used Mr. Coffee for many years enough that don't remember how long they last. Know folks that use Keurig but with my consumption level don't want to make by the cup. Have old perculator used camping in event power goes off. Yes have gas stove and if all goes wrong a camping bottle gas camping stove as backup for the backup. Brain dosen't function well without several cups o' joe in morning.

We have the Mr Coffee with the thermal carafe. Never "descaled" it. It will auto shut off when it calls for cleaning, I just unplug it and plug back in. All the cleaner is is vinegar.. We have very good tap water,so no problem
Pods? We buy whole beans and grind at home. Not snobs, it just tastes better
Coffee prices are gonna go up even more!

I am the only coffee drinker in this house. I use a Farberware pod machine that does an admirable job.

Ruthie and Logan go through an inordinate amount of Red Rose tea both for hot tea and sweet iced tea.

They use a Nesco Real Tea machine that has held up well.

Seems like descaling sets off the self destruct timer, at least on the 3 Keurig's I have had.
About the 2 year mark I am forced to do something, like descaling, because the 8oz pour dispenses about 4.5 -5 oz.
I just think of them as a coffee maker that you lease for 2 years then turn it in and get another.
I have heard that some people buy them at Costco and return them when they start to underperform.

Never owned one...I make it by the pot. But I also keep a box of these on hand, I think they make a decent cup of coffee. Same principal as the pods, but their cheap and convenient. This link is from Staples, but buy them in the grocery store.
