I am looking for a forward grip and like the concept behind the AFG. I see where some folks do and some do not like the new slim design of the AFG2. I think it would be better since it allows more access to the side rails. Anyone feel like discussing their firsthand accounts about either of the grips?

I have the AFG on my carbine and I like it. Thing is, it's not a 100% perfect solution, it's a compromise. A vertical foregrip will allow a more natural wrist position during extended use. Also with a vertical you can pull the rifle back into your shoulder much more, which some people like.

Now for what I like about the AFG. One, it does not dig into your leg when resting on your lap riding in a vehicle. This alone sells it for me. Also how you grip the AFG is important. You should get complete purchase around the grip and rails of the rifle with your thumb extended over the bore line. This will allow you to control muzzle flip more and provides a rock solid shooting posture if used correctly. This grip will also reduce side to side wobble compared to a vertical. Finally the AFG can be used with just about any position or posture, including ones where your hand would leave a vertical grip and grab the rail instead.

If you are limited on rail space, carbine length, the AFG2 might be better. I have a specter length rail and there is plenty of room left over on the bottom rail after attaching the grip.

I have one on my M&P 15-22 and I love it. I want one for my M&P 15A but the sling attachment is in the way and also I think the rails may not be long enough on a carbine , could be wrong but i still want one:)

In trying to find a comfortable and effective support hand grip on the forend to reduce fatigue from arthritis related symptoms I ended up with a thumb-over type hold. It occurred to me a this point that the AFG might further assist by allowing for a more natural hand position. I place my index finger in front of the front tab and grip around the AFG with the rest of my support hand fingers as this provides a more natural grip angle for me. For my use it's a significant ergonomic improvement.

Thanks guys. I have the carbine length rail so I am going to check out the AFG2.

i know this an old thread, but i'm new here and i just picked up a M&P15FT(MA Compliant Tactical). i added the afg2 because i liked the concept unfortunately i just can't get a comfortable grip without sticking my elbow straight out to the side. switching to an Ace Ltd. K-grip in aluminum.

I have AFG's on all of my AR15's and on my Beretta CX4. I typically use them as a reference point when I'm holding the weapon. For me they are lower profile than a VFG and prevent me from hanging onto that VFG when I'm shooting. I have much better control when I hold the handguard as opposed to a VFG.

Dont like them

I have tried many types if "grips" long VFG, short VFG, AFG.....but I am back to no grip. All of them look Ninja cool but none of the were great for me. YMV

I recently tried out a tubular rail (Troy Alpha I think) on a friends rifle and that smaller round rail felt very good (with no grip). So much so that I want to start looking into pricing and such.

I ran it for a while. It was ok. I recently sold it on eBay though as I preferred no grip instead

I have a Magpul AFG on my 15-22 and a Troy Defense vertical fore grip on my 15 TS and prefer the Troy. I think the Magpul works better for my 8 year old though. I like both but for me the Troy feels more natural.

Nordic Components makes a small tubular handguard that I really like. Its ventilated plus easy to get my hands around and has multiple spots for mounting pic rails, I tried a VFG and just couldnt get good control of my rifle. I never have tried the AFG it just doesnt look like my cup of tea.
