Anyone had experience with Urolift?

I hope that you can find some help. Back in 1991 cure or help was surgery.
I was in the hospital a week. My nieces husband had it a few years back and he was in the hospital overnight. Much improvement has been made in surgery and I expect treatment. I wish you good luck.

I can't answer your specific question about that Arizona facility, but I wish you the best in finding a solution that will offer you the relief that you want.

Reading between the lines, you have already researched or have been told about different available treatments for BPH. Let me mention an information source you might like to consult if you haven't already:

National Center for Biotechnology Information

Parsing out the URL hidden behind the link language:

NCBI: National Center for Biotechnological Information
NLM: National Library of Medicine
NIH: National Institutes of Health
GOV: I think we all know these guys...

Just search for Urolift or BPH Treatment on the home page. Or, maybe simpler, use a search engine you trust and look for Urolift, then pick out the entries that have ncbi in the URL. A lot of the reported articles will be written in heavy-duty medicalese, but a lot of what is relevant in these articles can be puzzled out with focused reading.

Judging from a couple of articles I found, the Urolift procedure is about as effective as the TURP process, which the older among us may remember is what President Reagan underwent back in the 1980s. Urolift is more expensive. There are also a couple of recent treatments involving localized heat treatment which may be worth considering. Get your doctor's input on those.

Good luck.

I've had the TURP and then later the Urolift. I didn't like TURP because I had to wear a catheter for a few days. That one worked for a few weeks and then it was business as usual. Same old problems. I don't even know if they still do TURP anymore. Less than a year ago I had the Urolift. Same thing, it worked for awhile and now I'm back to where I was, with less money in my pocket. I can't tell you anything about the facility you're thinking of using. I can only tell you that neither procedure had any lasting effect. I've been having some blood in my urine. I went through a whole bunch of tests back in June that didn't show anything. I asked the doc if the metal gadgets he put in my urinary tract during the Urolift could be causing it and he was rather evasive and wants to add some more. I'm beginning to think this is another so called miracle cure insurance milking procedure that isn't working at all. Watch out for the sleep apnea doc too. They tried to hook me up with that six years ago. I refused and have been doing fine with that since then. I want a second opinion on the prostate problem and am waiting to see if my insurance will cover it.

My urologist talked with me about it (UroLyft) briefly over a year ago. I assume he is licensed or approved to perform it, had done some, and was pleased with the outcomes. I still have a brochure about it somewhere. I somewhat understand what they do, and I believe it is usually done outpatient, although you are catheterized (ugh), and go home catheterized (ugh). I expect there is a prostate forum (or forums) where you might could find out more. I have not investigated it further, but I may. i don't know whether it is medicare approved (which is a concern for me, since I am on medicare).

From what I understand.
TURP and Green Light reduce the prostrate by cauterizing the tissue.
Urolift uses staples to reshape the prostate/ urethra.

Jim:

Funny you should ask!!! I just spent my birthday, November 19th, last Tuesday having the UroLift performed. Little early to give you much of a review, but I spent the night (at home) with a catheter in, went back the next morning for a checkup, they removed the catheter. Immediate improvement in ability to pass urine. But passed blood for a couple of days as well (small quantity).

I had previously ended up in the emergency room at 3 AM back in August, unable to pass at all. On flomax until we could schedule the UroLift. Had a whole battery of tests done, no cancer (thank the Lord).

I’ll keep you updated as I see how this plays out. Heck, we have to do something, and this seemed to be the best option. My doc also does all of the other procedures, so he’s going to make money no matter what, so I tend to believe him that this was worth a shot.

Procedure was done under anesthesia, and I had to have a driver along to take me home, but it was pretty quick.

Best Regards, Les

I had it done...working fine

Jim...I had it done...working fine for me...Dr told me I would not have to have a catheter to go home with this procedure, but due to bleeding issues I had to use one for only 1 night...the procedure was a bit disconcerting...was wide awake when it was done...after lidocaine was applied an instrument that resembles a thin tube caulking gun was used to insert the metal clips...a total of 6 clips were applied...I'm going to spare the rest of the details...please if you have any questions PM me...as I said above it is working fine for me...Roger
