I've got the bug for a new wheelie and am interested in one of the current model 67s. I think the heavy barrel (the newer one piece barrels – not the previous two piece barrels) would make for a nice handling IDPA gun. I understand they have the .357 length cylinder but are chambered for 38 special. I have a 67-1 and it's a great gun, but the handling characteristics of the heavy barrel interests me. I also like the pinned front sight, making it easy to drop in a FO front.

So if someone wanted to they could lengthen the chamber to .357 mag without changing out the cylinder?

The 67's are great guns I enjoy shooting them. I own a 67-5 this is the first year with the lock and it has the heavy one piece barrel. I also own after several years of looking a 67-4 this is the last year made with out the lock also the heavy one piece barrel. The cylinders on both these guns are 1.56 which is correct for the 38 cal. and not magnum length. I have sent both guns off to the factory for the revolver action work and replaced the front sights with a gold bead of .300 height. Put on Ahrends grips and replaced the rebound spring with the ISIM 10% reduced spring from Brownells. The 67-5 which I purchased new has over 10,000 trouble free rounds through it and is a very accurate revolver. Last winter I shot the 67-4 every week for four months and it never had a problem in over 5000 rounds and it too is a very accurate revolver. As an aside I also replaced the lock with the Plug and it could just be me but I think the gun knew it... it just seemed to run better after that.
