I was playing with my new to me Ruger Sec. Six yesterday and I noticed the serial number, well, the part after 151-, is strabogrammatic. (Yeah, I had to look up the word). After the 151- prefix the number is 91016 which is the same if you turn it upside down. Yeah, sometimes I have too much time on my hands! Obligatory pictures of the gun, but I don’t have the picture of the serial number. Sorry! Same gun, different stocks,

Okay, here’s the number. Stupid Ruger people put the Ones on with the little extra lines on the top and bottom!

The "little extra lines" are called serifs. Now you learned another word.:D;) Characters without them are called sans-serif, meaning without serif.:rolleyes:

Since "strabogrammatic" refers generally to a single character/numeral, not necessarily a series like a SN, yes I have many guns with strabogrammatic numbers, probably the majority of them.:rolleyes::rolleyes: 0, 1, 6 and 9 are always strabogrammatic.

Wow, only four posts, and I’ve learned two things… strabogrammatic, which I’d never heard before and serif/sans serif, which I’d heard before, but didn’t know what it meant.

Who makes those finger grove stocks ? Are they Mustang ?

I can't remember where I ordered them from; perhaps I got them through the Ruger online store, but who made them I don't know. The markings on the back are faint and pretty illegible. If I come across the receipt I'll post it. They are very comfortable to hold the gun, but very smooth. I'll find out tomorrow how they feel shooting with. Edit: see my other post below for where I got them.

Serif! Thanks! I couldn't remember that word!

strabogrammatic
Great new word for me to tell my brother.

Serif and sans-serif.
If you change fonts often enough you quickly learn such things. Learning those words is one thing, though. Remembering them is a horse of a different color!!!! :D

Now, having said that, and if you think of this thread as "banter", which it is, then it is also "badinage", and you've learned another word today....... ;)

I definitely have several that fall into that category but then I like serial numbers

My 45 Long Colt Mountain Gun is 1111 not counting the alpha prefix

Not counting the alpha prefix, I have a Model 66 snub nose whose serial number is 0000, so that one will read the same upside down.

I have a Kek Tec P3AT that has 000 as the numeric portion of the serial number. Sorry, I don't have either of these photographed

My 41 Magnum Marlin Custom Cowboy Limited lever action is actually a Palindromic number, not a Strobogrammatic, that is if you leave the alpha "CCL" out of it. The number is 00300

My 45ACP HK USP45 is numbered 609. This is the USP in the upper left hand corner of this old family photo. I purchased it the first week they were available

My Model 36 Texas Hold'em is another Palindromic number, 727

My First Edition Double Eagle is also Palindromic number, 747. The Double Eagles owned by my father and his ex wife are serial numbered 727 and 737. I purchased all three brand new back in 1992 and liked the Boeing theme

There are multiple others. Like I said I have a thing for serial numbers

I once owned a Colt Official Police, s/n 651156......... Sold it during a financial shortfall years ago and still regret it. Have had a couple others that were close to reading the same both ways but not quite. Always check when looking at used guns though, being a bit OCD it's something I find interesting.

"A MAN, A PLAN, A CANAL, PANAMA" is the longest one I'm familar with...

(Won't even get into Roman Numerals for I, II, III or even X reasons!)

Cheers!

P.S. Obviously, that's sans punctuation...

Attributed to Napoleon: “Able was I ere I saw Elba”.

I saw a license plate the other day that was the same upside-down/backwards: ELE 373. He said it was just a random plate from the DOT.

So, now I have to listen to that most excellent Jimi tune!
I was always kinda happy about being a Pisces, the two fishes doing “water” aerobics.
Numbers always gave me math anxiety ever since Algebra!
