Anyone here drive a new or newer WRX or STI?

I know I ask a lot about different cars, but it is getting close to the time that I am going to have to get something, or I'm going to be on foot.
Anyway, I plan on buying new, and the WRX and STI are about the only thing I can find that are actually on the lot, have a manual, and in a color I like.
I keep swaying back and forth between SUV's and sporty little cars, but I don't think I would be happy with a soccer mom car.
Mainly wondering if these performance Subaru's hold up well if you don't beat on them.

I’ve heard different things, but my Subaru crosstrek has been very reliable and I’m tempted by the wrx too. I can’t find anyone who has non anecdotal experience with them. However, I have been given “no problem” reports on Subaru manuals in Crosstrek, and it’s the same gearbox. That’s all I can tell ya. Except I really like the BRZ.

Did he drive an STI before he chose the WRX?
STI is only about $35 more every six months on insurance for me, but t is about $10K more expensive.

Depending upon the ride quality you prefer, the STI might be more fun, and busier (short gears), than you can stand over time. I bought a Forester 'cause I wanted room for "stuff" and don't want to put a car on like a shoe.

My son's car is dark gray metallic. He wanted black, but couldn't get one. He never drove an STI or a WRX before he got his first one in 2016. He just liked what he heard about it.



If he had a 2016, why did he get a 2019, you ask? A few months ago, he was coming home from work and just turned into the driveway. A woman in a big pickup truck, speeding and probably texting, hit his car. There were skid marks in the driveway of his car being pushed sideways and thrown down the road about 35-40 feet. The car was a total wreck, but my son had no injuries. The WRX was built well.



To add to the wreck, it happened on my son's birthday. HAPPY ******* BIRTHDAY, MICK!


After he got the settlement check, that plus $3000, and he got the 2019. He thinks the 2019 is a better car than the 2016. More features and a much lighter clutch.

STI makes sports cars AND 2011’s?

I had the SUV vs sporty car dilemma you have. Bought the SUV and sold it a year later and bought a Boxster. If you’re looking at those 2 Subie’s a SUV will not make you happy unless you need something practical. FWIW I had an Impreza, it was a good car. Drove a WRX, bad ***!
