A local gun shop has a 4" 19-4 they took in on trade today. As it should be, it is pinned and recessed and has a color-casehardened target hammer. It also has a narrower aftermarket(?) trigger with a smooth surface, a black ramp front sight and an aftermarket(?) rear sight blade with a white dot on either side of the notch and a Hogue Monogrip. The barrel appears to have been reblued; while it looks nice, it does not quite match the deep Royal Blue on the rest of the gun perfectly. It's close but not exact; someone not familiar with those older blued S&Ws probably would never notice the barrel's finish. Finally, the shop owner told me there is a tiny rust spot on the grip frame under the rubber grip. There is no box, tools or paperwork. The action is very smooth and crisp but if someone did any work in there, they weren't butchers for the side plate screws slots I could see are pristine.

I would call it a shooter-grade gun and it is priced at a firm $325, which frankly struck me as inexpensive for a pinned and recessed Model 19. It seemed nice and tight, there is no forcing cone erosion or cracking, the bore looks good and the area around the firing pin bushing does not appear to have been hammered by heavy loads. If I had any need at all for it, I would have bought it. If anyone is interested, send me a P.M. and I'll provide the gun shop name and telephone number.

I guess this should have been posted in the older gun section but if it should be moved, I'm sure a moderator will see to that.

Not there anymore. Just called and it is heading my way.

Thank you for the tip Ed.

Owe Ed a thumbs up on this one. I don't usually come across these deals, but blind man definitely found a nickle here. Other than swapping out the monogrip, not much to be done to this revolver other than going out and shooting it. I was debating on possibly doing a 9mm conversion on it, but I believe I will let it be.

Revolver is as described above and you can see the differences in bluing along the barrel, but for a shooter, it won't matter.

Ed: My thanks again. Hopefully I can return the favor in the future.

Yes, you do. I know the gun is not a pristine, all-original specimen but that price just sounded too good to not share with others who might want a sound Model 19 to "just shoot." I'm glad Mike's happy with it and thank him for the kind words.
