Today I saw a Ruger Single Six chambered in .32 H&R magnum. It was a blued model with adjustable sights. Not sure of the exact barrel length but looked to be right around 6 inches. Some blue worn from the end of barrel, presumably from being carried in a holster. I also noted that one of the screws in the bottom of the gripframe, near the rear of the triggerguard, was slightly boogered. I have found that I like the H&R magnum round and think that this would make a fine small game and plinking gun. Price tagged at $395. Far cheaper than any of the Model 16's I have been seeing. I am thinking about picking it up. Anybody care to offer their thoughts one way or the other? Your opinions welcomed.

I dont know what they go for now. I see I paid $190 for this one in 1989. It was new/used built in 1985. I see I had valued it at $350 from a old blue book about three years ago.
They are nice shooters, flat shooting, accurate and have a sharp bark, but next to no recoil. A fine packing trail gun.

I paid less than $395 for a brand new one (fixed sights) just a couple years ago. I seem to recall a distributor had a warehouse full of overruns and they were blowing them out.

We own 2 of the .32 Rugers, Stainless & Blued. Great little wheel guns. No plans to sell either, regardless of the price. (Of course if you made me an offer I "can't refuse").

The gun is worth more than that.If it has SSM stamped on the side it is worth a good bit more!

I was very fresh a member of this forum, when I found a Ruger Single Six for sale on a local gun-realated homepage. After I've contacted the seller and sent him the asked US$ 145.--, I recieved a view days later the Ruger with the 6.5 inch barrel like he described it. Without box, papers or anything else. I've introduced the gun here in the forum, and I can remember very well the names I got from the members here. "Horsethief" was included too.

It's really scary accurate.

I love to shoot it. I think that I will take it to the range next time.

About $400 is a good show price for the 6 1/2" adjustable-sighted gun, a bit less between friends? Complete ANIB examples in rare models can fetch hundreds more, even scratching the four-figure numbers these days when all paperwork and shipping sleeves are in as-new condition. As stated above, the "SSM" stamped frames are very early & low-in-number, and highly desireable among Ruger collectors.

The "original" 32 H&R Magnum adjustable-sighted guns came in 4.625"; 5.5"; 6.5", and the 9.5" - all blued versions, in either the traditional plowhandle or "bisley" grip; with the bisley guns offering fluted or non-fluted roll-stamped cylinders and fully-adjustable or windage-only blade-type rear sights.

The later-production 32H&R Mag guns were blued or stainless, all fixed-sight shorties with steel ejector housings & three grip styles including a birdshead variant.

Good luck collecting all the variants!

BTW, they were meant to be shot! They make excellent sidearms for small game and plinking, and will shot the 32 S&W Long rounds well. A most-excellent all-around revolver for woods-walking!

I got one as well, great plinking and I like having the adjustable sights. The ruger price if new is good. I paid about that much for mine. Where are you seeing 16-4's at??? Please tell us.

I would jump all over a 6 1/2 inch with adjustable sights for a reasonable price. I reload for a 16-4 so I have ammo and it would be lots of fun to play with.

Just saw this here. Sure, the $395 is prob OK if you like the gun in person and examine it when unloaded - e.g., its action is tight, bore and chambers shiny, crown looking perfect, barrel and front sight properly aligned with frame when looked at head-on. No matter the boogered screw; could be fixed or replaced...

I hope you have traveled to pick it up today!.

Cheers,

Dyson

The original ones with adjustable sights are worth a lot more than the newer fixed sights one that came out after Ruger stopped production of the original adj sight ones. I sold a 5 or 6 inch barreled one a few years back for about $500 (had original box). I sold a 9-1/2 inch barreled one last year for about $650 (no box).
