My wife and son love goats. When they go to the barn to play with their horses, they play with the goats too.

...except that they can be noisy and stink more than some barnyard animals. I don't like getting butted. One time a goat tried to eat my wife's dress because it had flowers on it. FUNNY!

My wife and I like goats, the little ones are fun to play with and we have been lucky to never have met a bad tempered goat.

Had a delicious goat dish at a friend's wedding on Triniad and Tobago.
They also do a great job clearing Kudzoo off a lot.

Have a young fellow that runs a 60-80 head on my pastures, cleaning out the lespedeza. I don't charge him rent and he doesn't charge me for use of the goats. Works for both of us and the goats do a great clean up job. The guard dogs that watch the goats are something else. Don't want to get near them. They take their jobs very seriously.

My youngest and her kids (the people kind not the goat kind) are 4H volunteers at an alpaca/goat farm near the Indiana border.

They derive a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from it.

My only two experiences with goats -

When I was a kid, a nearby neighbor had a billy goat he kept chained up in the back yard. We were always told to stay away from it because it was mean. One day it gored him in the gut, and he later died of an infection.

Years later, when I moved to the sticks here in PA, a work buddy decided it would be a good idea to get a goat to help keep the grass and shrubs down in his yard. One day, soon after, he came home and found said goat standing on the roof of his new mustang, the sheet metal looking like it had been in a bad hail storm. Said goat "went to live on a farm out in the country"...

Neither are probably good examples of well kept goats.
