Anyone load the 230 gr WC in 38/357

Looking for load data for the 230gr WC that Badman Bullets sells. Figured someone here was using them. Want to try them for bowling pins which is supposedly their design.

One site has a .357 with a load of Acc #9 at 900 fps
and a 38 spl with #9 at 883fps at 21,870 PSI.

The 38 spl load of 6.5 grs. of Acc #9 at 815 fps and 17,500 PSI
with the 250 gr. bullet looked like a good load to me, that would not over work a revolver.

This bullet was made by Penn, by the way.

Never tried a bullet that heavy and long in the .38 spl / .357 mag. Will they stabilize with the 1 in 18.75 twist rate that S&W commonly uses?

For the Badman bullet I use the Ram Shot True Blue data out of the Western Powders or Lee book, which are in .38 Special +P for some reason. The only creative choice I’ve made is to use Fiocci .357 Magnum brass, since that is all I have.

Shooting wise it is a low-recoiling and slow moving bullet (unable to use my Magneto Speed chronograph due to the Model 27’s tapered barrel). Point of impact is about ~2-3 inches high and seems to stabilize in a 6.5 inch barrel.

Don't know if I'd want to hit bowling pins with them doing +/- 800fps. Years ago my brother had a load that would shoot bugholes @ 50ft in a 6" bbl'd python. It was 3.0gr of bullseye pushing the lyman 170gr 358429 in 38spl cases. It was doing the same +/- 800fps & when it hit bowling pins square/dead center on the trademark. The bullet would bounce strait back. Used to sit there and catch them & yes it was hot lead.

I haven't even been able to get really good performance out of my 170 grain Lee swc's, let alone something heavier. That's one mold I could do without.

I'd like to try those in my 686. We hunt Whitetails in the "cat-tail" bottoms near here with revolvers. I'd like to shoot a double action in lieu of my Super Blackhawk for quicker follow-up shots.

Not a wc but do a search for the "Bullet for All Seasons" the Lyman 358627. The Los Angeles Silhouette Club used to have an article site with this. At 225 gr listed mine usually weigh about 5 gr more when lubed and checked. They will shoot and be stable out of a 38 special S&W.

It looks like the BIG 230 with a full load can get around 412 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

A little 180 gr bullet at 1180 fps delivers a MV of 556 ft/lbs. and that is not using 296 or H110 powders.
