I'm a retired cabinetmaker/furniture-maker, but I'm a new shooter [about 2 years now]. The lumber yard I dealt with has some eye-catching lumber that I believe would look great on a grip.
But...are there some lumber species unsuited for grips: Ebony or Amaranth? Ebony is v-e-r-y dense and many times Amaranth will bleed unless first treated.
Also wondering if there are patterns for the numerous "alphabet frame" grips, or should I just wing it with carving tools, coping saw, scraper & a traced-on-paper pattern?
Any guidance in these ends would be most gratefully received!
