Anyone own an "American Classic II" 1911 ???

Hi, I just had my dealer put one of these in the safe for me. Although made in the Phillipines it has gotten very good reports from what I've read. Looks like a nicely optioned 1911 for not a lot of money. Let me know what you think if you own onw please, thanks, Shoo

I handled one... it had a faulty grip safety.
It would drop the hammer without the grip safety being pressed.
It looked well made, I like the Philippines made 1911s... I regularly carry a RIA and High Standard compact 1911s.

They are made by the same company as the Rock Island . A very nice 1911, don't know which mod. you have but i have a tatical 5"& a 3-1/2compact . The CS has military sights that are small and hard to see ,wish i had waited for the one with bigger sights . I have not had any problems with mine, they handle 230gr cast RN and 200gr SWC without any FTF.I do Keep it clean & well lubed . I have shot @1K through them and carry the CS. If any problems ever do show up I feel that the customer service will take care of the problems .I have talked to their reps. at Armscor and they were friendly& helpfull. the frames are cast (so is Ruger ) don't see a problem ,They use MIM so do most all MfgS. I don't think I would try to make a fancy high end custom out of one because you will never get the money back.But what the heck you never do get back what you put into one .They are as accurate as my Colt .and Smith. For the price what's not to like.

The American Classic II pistols are manufactured by Metroarms. They are located in the Philippines but have nothing to do with Armscor.

Shoo, just go to the m1911.org forum. There's plenty of info on these pistols over there.

Thank you guys for all the great info, that's what I wanted to find out. I'm buying the longer barrelled one. It look really nice, especially for the money. It has the Commander-style hammer, extended grip safety, extended mag release, Novak style sights. Felt really nice in my hand. I was going to try a Taurus 1911 but this one was cheaper and appeared to be a great deal on a 1911. Thanks again, I'll check out the 1911 Forum for more reports, Shoo

I have the Firestorm Delux version,(same as the American Classic just different roll mark) for the money you cant beat it no problems with about 500 rounds through it.Nice looking also.

shoo i picked up a stainless PT1911 AR yesterday for 500 out the door and I love it to death what I have shot out of it feed digested and came out flawlessly but I hear great things about armscor/rock island as well

i bought one of these american classic 2 as my first handgun. The dealer highly recomened it. I have never been happier with a gun. I have fire over 2000 rounds thrugh it, and still performs perfect. I can honestly say i have never had a ftf or fte. Amazing gun, I am concedering buying a second one.

I just bought a Commander model, after having read many favorable reports on these guns. There have been some issues as well, mainly with the slide stop and the magazine release, both easy fixes. Metro Arms gets good reviews for its customer service, and has a lifetime warranty. I ordered mine from Gun Genie; I'd only seen a Government model in the local shops. When I picked it up from the gun dealer, he said he had one (although his was a government model) and liked it as well as if not better than his Colts and Springfields.

I was very pleasantly surprised with my Commander....the fit and finish are excellent, it has no rattles, and cycles smoothly. I just got it yesterday, so I've not even cleaned it yet...and I won't get to shoot it until after the holidays. It certainly appears to be well worth the money, and then some. I bought it to have an inexpensive 1911 to tinker with, but this may well be one of my best.

I wanted a GI style full size 1911 for a long time and was going to get a Rock Island, but hated the tiny sights. The American Classic II looks very "GI" but has bigger fixed sights so I purchased a brand new one about six months ago from TWOGUNJAY for $375 shipped. The only thing I didn't like about it was the cheezy wood grips so I bought a full checkered walnut set from COOLGUNSTUFF.com for 18 bucks and now it looks great! All the controls feel great and the trigger is about 4-1/2 lbs with no over travel, and it is extremely accurate. It's quality and accuracy seems to easily equal my old Kimber Custom II or my 1984 Colt Combat Government Model. If I had a magic wand and could change anything about the gun I just wish the big American Classic logo and billboard were gone from the slide. But atleast it's not as bad as Rugers.

Hmmm....actually, I think the SR1911 roll marks are fairly well done, especially considering what usually comes on a Ruger, and are actually smaller and more understated than those on the American Classic pistols. I've noticed that some of the newer Ruger revolvers have the more understated roll marks as well....they don't have the entire manual printed on the barrels.
