No.

I cannot stand magnas or service grips even with a T Grip.

I take the rubbers off and put on factory magna's. I'm an ol' fashioned type of guy.

I will admit, they aren't as comfortable to shoot, but I like them for concealment. I'll also admit that I choose them because I like how they look. Rubber just doesn't have any personality. I guess I'm an old fashioned guy too.

Here's my 'retro' model 37-2. Factory walnut with an original T-grip and a cylinder latch from the new model 40;

I keep the diamond magnas with a Tyler T-Grip on the older model 36 because....well it's just wrong not to. Same goes for my Colt Det. Special. It needs to have the retro stocks on it. (I think it's a law.)

My modern 640-1 that I use for CCW wears the rubber grips that came with it. They do the job well even with full house .357 mags. I would like a set of CT-305s for it though!

I have the beautiful target grips that came with my 29-3 put away, and the model 29-3 wears finger groove Hogues that tame the beast perfectly for a fun day at the range!

i have a M-38 that does a lot of coat pocket duty for me in winter. it came with a set of the newer (pressed checkering?) magnas like reds gun above, i swapped on a set of old diamond magnas and the feel is night/day different. one could ask for a fuller sized grip but there is something about the smoothness and the roundness that lets it slip right into a shooting grip while the mellow checkering holds it in place without affecting comfort. the newer magnas seem blocky by comparison. i have some collins craft grips on a model 36 that have the round feel of the older magnas but are thicker giving a more hand filling handle without much added bulk.

I have a set of Hogue Kingwoods on my 686. Like the grips you have pictured, they eliminate the need for a T-Grip.

BTW, nice set up you have there.

thanks a bunch yall. i have noticed they seem to work better for me to carry in my pants pockets...plus i dont own any older smiths yet and i like the look

The service grips fit me better and conceal better than the rubbers and I like the look. I have put them on all my S&W revolvers.

I hope all realize that the Uncle Mike's boot grips are a 100% correct copy of Craig Spegel's outstanding boot grips, right down to the checkering pattern.

They may look ugly, but they sure fit the hand right.

I agree with most in that the service grips look much better or retro, especially with a tyler t installed. I used to carry nothing but the UM on mine but I recently qualified with my 637-2 with service grips with a tyler t installed and it was not uncomfortable to shoot at all. I also prefer that set up for pocket carry as it makes the j-frame that much more concealable.

The rubber grips are baggage for my purposes. I don't care for their looks or the way that they cling to pockets or clothing.

I am about to try out a Tyler T-Grip on my 11-year-old Model 642.

Yes, invariably. I have wood M36 Magnas on my early 642 (I think it came with UM grips) and my 342PD. I need to keep Tylers off my alloy-frame RBs, because using them causes my middle-finger knuckle to get rapped. They work fine on my steel J-frames and my SB M37s. I also have M36 Magnas on my 36-6, which came with Hogues.

Almost all J-frame boot grips that I have tried have provided a less-secure grip than Magnas, and none offered any advantage at all to me. I have not tried Badgers, so it's possible that they might work. Of course, they add size. There also used to be a set of [Precision Specialties?] "Secret Service" grips sold by Brownells that were quite acceptable, but maybe not quite as good as the Magnas.

For me, M36 Magnas are the way to go on a J frame.

I have the magna's from my 66 on my 386 night guard along with a t grip. This is more confortable to me than the ahrend boot grips.

That's a combination of Smith & Wesson model and grip that I've not seen before. Not bad actually.

I certainly like the look of original factory magnas better, but they certainly do not work in my hand in either the J, K, L or N frame size.

I wish the factory had made its own version of the boot grip in wood with S&W medallions so that the area behind the trigger guard could be filled in to provide suppport and so the grip did not extend below the bottom of the frame or further back that the rear of the grip frame.

Thanks, I do tend to go with what I find confortable over what is traditional.

The service stocks work fine for me.
