I shoot them in my .221 Rem Fireball CZ rifle.

One hole is the norm.
Thanks John I was wondering about through the MSR's, especially the 8 twist barrels.

I shot 3 test loads the other evening and they shot like lasers.:D

The few I've shot through 1/7 and 1/8 barrels grouped wonderfully.

I wrote for Varmint Hunter Magazine for 14 years and was their senior technical writer. I was in on the Nosler 40Ballistic from the beginning.

Gail Root, who was Nosler's Ballistician, developed the 40Ballistic and he loved the bullet. Strangely, the ballistic coefficient came out considerably higher than the "Army Program" calculated it. After a few years, we settled at a BC of .221, but I swear that in field shooting, it looks more like .260.

The wind drift of the 40Ballistic is often less than calculated ... another vote for a higher BC.

I've probably shot 50,000 or more 40Ballistics in the field and they are unreal on prairie dogs and fabulous on big coyotes. And they really cream bobcats and badgers.

Yep, I've whacked a couple of mule deer with the 40s, too. Worked perfectly.

My go-to bullet in the .223 Remington and .223 Ackley is the 40Ballistic.

God Bless,

Steve

thank you Steve, I just started playing with them. I have found for me that the Nosler bullets across the board have been more accurate than the other brands, but I havent tried them all and my experiences with 68 and heavier bullets wasnt impressive. So thanks

I have some as well...

Ill have to test em again with New scope.... maybe Ill try em Monday Grover if the wind dies down like it is supposed to

Ya get much snow:D

Nope just a light icing its all gone today...if it warms up and the wind doesnt blow I will test them out, chrony and print them on paper later today. I also have some 50gr V-max to print.

I used to use them in my .22 Hornet. They like a moderate charge of 2400 in my H & R single shot. I never got to try them on coyotes or foxes but they dusted a large crow quite well, the bullet didn't expand a whole lot. I also shot a large squirrel, not much to tell about there.

i still have some Nossler 40gr, 50gr, and Hornady 50gr SP loaded up...

So if Monday isnt too windy, chance of Rain but only 85deg, Ill be testing em all..

Should be a Fun Monday

I HOPE!!!

These were all shot at 250yrds, distance verified with laser rangefinder.:D:D

sounds like Dogzapper knows about these great bullets. I have shot several 100 boxes, on P dogs, crows, etc and love them. The accuracy is super in all of my 22 varmint guns and the down range performance is superb. I have this crazy wildcat on an ackley improved 6 mm Rem necked to 22 that runs these things about 4650 fps out the end of the barrel. Crows just disappear and almost the same for the little prairie dogs under 200 yards with this load. All this in 1 in 14 and 1 in 12 barrels, so i do not know about the super tight twist, but go for it, the performance down range on game will be great if the accuracy is there. I once killed 83 p dogs in a 223 out of a box of 100 with these bullets, again in a 1 in 12 barrel.

I am shooting them out of the Sport with the 16" 1:8 5R barrel Sport! My biggest concern was the RPM limits on the bullet but I had them running over 306,000 rpm and the bullets held together. I will be working these up as Pdog Bullets.

Dang Grover. That is high RPM. :D

I've run the 40Ballistics at 4,550 fps from a .220 Swift Ackley with a 1/10" twist. Never had one not make it to the target or have a problem in any way.

One really cool effect, however. On high humidity mornings with just a touch of fog, when I shot a couple of coyotes, there were contrails straight to the kill.

Apparently, at a half-million RPMS, the bullet is a tad warm and it leaves the cool contrail ... just like a jet airplane

I've forgotten what cartridge was used at Nosler to test the upper limits of velocity with the 40Ballistic. It was either the .22-'06 or their .22-.284. Hotdogging it, for sure, but no bullet blowup.

Personally, I think the 40Ballistic would also be a fine home-defense bullet. In fact, that is what I have loaded in my S&W 15-TS that sits fully-loaded by our bed. I am literally betting not only MY life on it, but the life of my wife of 49-years.

By the way, wifey of 49-years is absolutely a keeper :p

God Bless,

Steve

I have found some bullets that wont stay together at the rpm's that the 1:8 barrel creates. Most of the data I was coming up with had them running pretty fast but that was out of 1:12 twist barrels. I am super happy with the Nosler's, especially the performance of the 40's. Hoping to try them out on some Pdogs in the next few days.
