There are probably better powders for the 45 ACP but I have some I want to use up. Just range blasting/causual target ammo. Does it leave a lot of unburned powder?

I've recently used Blue Dot for some 200-gr SWC .45 ACP loads. Not surprisingly, I got pretty large spreads by my standards. BD is not at its best with pressures this low, at least in handgun ammo.

However, surprisingly (to me, at least), the loads worked fine, delivered quite decent average velocities, and respectable accuracy. My notes do not reflect a lot of unburnt powder.

The stuff is never going to usurp Power Pistol, Unique or BE's place in my .45 loading, but it worked fine. And I believe that it would work just fine for the casual use you intend.

I use 231 or Unique and follow Lymans reloading book for the data. Unique is great in pistols...all calibers.

I use them also, I just have more Blue Dot "in stock" right now and will not load that many magnums so want to use some of it up.

If you want to just load some blasting ammo, heavy bullets and near max charges will work OK, even though the SD tends to be high.

Light loads with BD suck.

Thanks I will try that. By SD are you saying standard deviation? I hated statistics. But now I live with and by them, Funny how that works out.

Oh well even I can hit the center at 15 yds.LOL
