I just had a good friend give me a brick of these and wondering what people have experienced with them,as I hear a lot of not so great things with Remington ammo.

My Walther TPh shoots Remington "Golden .22" hi-vel HPs into groups about one-third the size of those fired with any other ammunition - clear out to 25-yds, which is quite a ways for a TPh. I have another gun or two that prefers them, so I try to keep some on hand. I don't know of anything about them I find objectionable. :)

If its the ones in a silver brick with a cowboy on the box, I had 2 out of about 250 rounds fail to fire and get stuck in the barrel. Had to flick out of my 10/22 with a knife tip.

But good luck getting any .22lr ammo, manufacturers are making a boatload of money on .223 centerfires, they dont have time to make .22lr right now. economics.

My experience with Remington .22 tell me it's the worst .22 ammo EVER!!

Even their center fire ammo sucks....it why the last ammo anyone has available is Remington.

I have used Remington Golden Bullet HP to much success. Both my CZ 452 and M&P 15-22 love it and I have yet to get a single FTF with them.

50 Yard - 5 shot group.

Hope more people keep hating on them, cause with this ammo shortage, I'll take em all.

And I agree with you.

I am always a bit surprised about how folks complain about Remington ammunition. I have heard those complaints since the late '60s, and I have been buying Remington ammunition since then. I have always thought it was as good as any, and in some cases better.

I just recently bought a small batch of .308 and .30/06 ammunition and tested it in the same rifles I have always used. No problem. Can't say how long the brass will last, but it shot very well. Last year, bought a modest amount of .41 and .44 Magnum ammunition that I found at an attractive price at one of the mass-marketers. I would guess it was maybe 4-5 years old. Both as good as ever. A few summers ago I purchased Remington .222 factory loads that outshot my handloads so badly it was embarrassing! (But I got that fixed - my brass was just worn out. :o) I shot one 5-round group at 160-yards that was so small I won't even discuss it. Couldn't believe it so I tried it again, and got the same results. Remington .45 Auto brass is what I prefer above any other brand. It is about all I use in that caliber. And Remington .38 wadcutters were always the standard we judged .38 targets loads against. Nothing EVER beat them, factory or handload, in any gun we used.

I just have never found much about Remington ammo that warrants complaint. Well, maybe the price. :D

I have to agree for the most part. When I was young,Remington 22's could hold their own fairly well. But now they aren't even close to what they use to be. Same for the dirty center fire pistol ammo. Only reason I buy Remington center fire (besides it's always the last on the shelf), is I can reload the brass.

I have been using cheap Remington Thunderbolt 22lr in my
S & W 22A and have had no issues with it. Although the 15 22 manual says not to use it so I haven't. Have been using Federal 22lr that I can still get at the range but they won't sell more than one sleeve (100 rounds) at a time as they want to have it so they can rent the shooting lanes.

I can't help but notice that you didn't mention .22lr in your post. I have no issues with Remington/UMC 9mm or .45...Remington shotgun shells/slugs...Remington in .223...or Remington Express or Remington/UMC in .38 and .357 (<--actually prefer those)

It's the .22lr Remington Golden bullets...especially the ones on the shelves around 2006-2009, give or take, that were just beyond terrible. That's where my personal observations really come from here, anyway.

I have used Remnton 22 LR ammo since the mid 1950's. At that time their SV ammo was a favorite for bullsye pistol shooters in my neck of the woods. never expereinced an ignition failure with that ammo and still have a few bricks left over from a DCM purchase at $100 per case of 10,000.
My recent experience with Remington Golden Bullet has been quite variable. In my S&W 617 I find an ignition failure rate of about 2 in 500 while in 1911 conversion units I expereince a ca. 5% rate of ignition failures. In contrast neither CCI Blazer nor CCI MinIMag experience any ignition failures.

That may be. I don't buy a lot of Golden .22s since I mostly shoot standard-velocity. What I have had has been fine, so maybe I have just been lucky.

I do recall one of my friends that I shoot with on a weekly basis had trouble with S.V. Rem. .22s around that time. He would have 3-4 misfires in a box of 50, which is not something you want in target ammunition. He is a meticulous cleaner, so I am sure a dirty pistol was not the fault. :D

He changed to CCI and he was so annoyed with the Remington stuff that he never changed back. But those problems were with the plain-lead bullet standard-velocity load, not the Golden .22s. Maybe whatever problem you noticed with the Golden .22s was somehow related...

I have a K22 that loves the 525 Remington Bulk pack ammo.
I've shot a lot of it and honestly don't recall any duds, though there must of been some. Maybe my K-Frame really hits the primers hard?

If you get the new and improved GB's you are good to go, however the old 525 packs have had a lot of problems with failures of every sort.
Here's my 15/22 loving the new and improved remingtons's.
My advice is get the new and improved and leave the old 525 packs of gb's alone.
The new ones come in 225 packs.

I understand that the Remington plated hollowpoints in the 525 pack didn't make the 'recommended' list in the owners manual, but I had good luck with them in my 15-22.

Dattebayo,

Are you using the "new and improved" labeled ammo?????

Thanks,
Paul
I am using the new and improved buckets and newly produced 525 green and yellow bulk boxes of them.

Well I recently started shooting .22's since this past Oct. I have heard many bad things about the Remington Golden Bullet from here and other forums so I have always shied away from them.

About a month ago though, the only ammo I could acquire was the Remington Golden Bullets and I was surprised to see the results after all the bad press it has received from shooters in the past.

I think Remington has improved their QC on their side of these bullets and I have been having great luck with them. I also have shot a few batches of then as well and I must say, there is absolutely no varying quality difference from batch to batch.

It definitely isn't a fluke because I have multiple occasions with great groupings at 50yards.

I wouldn't pay the extra price for Wolf MT, CCI SV, or Eley ammo unless I was competing. But these are more than accurate enough for target practice.
