How are android phones a better value? They look the same price too me.
For what it’s worth, I use an iPhone and iPad. Don’t even use a computer anymore.
A couple of years back, as my iPhone was locked to a carrier in Japan, I bought an android phone from Amazon to use in the US. I wanted the ad free version, so it cost more than the one with ads, but was still only $100. Ran the latest android OS and all the apps, etc. It was a nice phone for a great price, I thought.
But there were things that I wanted to do that I am sure it was capable of doing, but I did not know how to do them. Some stuff I could Google up, but it was kinda a PITA. With Apple you can just call them up and they will explain it to you. (I think with a new phone they do this for a year, but I buy the extended warranty/AppleCare which gives two (?) years of unlimited help.
When I bought a new iPhone earlier this year, I made sure to get an unlocked phone, so now I just switch SIM cards depending on whether I am in the US or Japan.
I think if I were willing to spend the time to learn how to use an android phone it would suit just fine. But I’m not willing. Took me long enough to learn iPhone’s OS (IOS) when I switched from a Blackberry back in 2012. Don’t want to do that again.
(I think some people enjoy messing with new phones and learning new stuff. But, I don’t.)
I also like how Apple vets all the apps in its app store to ensure they are without viruses, etc. I don’t want to try to deal with that sort of thing on my own.
I think the high end Samsung phones are up there in price with the high end iPhones, but I think there are many more inexpensive android phones from various makers than iPhones available. I do agree, though, with the poster above who notes older iPhones are a good deal. Especially with a new battery installed. (Only $30 through December.) Especially refurbished by Apple.
I’ve read that while Apple has something like 20% of the global smartphone market, it makes something like 85% of the profit. Their margins are sky high. Hence, first trillion dollar company.
So, yeah, I think they are overpriced, but, even so, I buy their product anyway because the convenience is worth it to me.
