All phones regardless of brand have their pros and cons. But I’ve been an iPhone user for several years. The user interface is much easier to use and understand.

I highly suggest trying each for yourself. Too many people jump on the bandwagon and buy the wrong phone. Apple and Samsung both make outstanding phones.

My observation is that often users who are technically adept, who enjoy tinkering with their computers and phones, prefer Android phones, and that those who do not prefer iPhones.

Android phones are a better value, for sure, for those who do not need help with their phones. (For those those who do need help, Apple’s aftercare is terrific.)

How are android phones a better value? They look the same price too me.

Are there $65 iPhones?

Can you get a new battery for $10-$20 for your iphone
on Amazon, and change it out in five minutes, tops?

Can you stick a ten dollar 32 gig SD card in your iphone,
when you need more storage?

I honestly don't understand why anyone would go with
the iphone over android, but PT Barnum had some
explanations for it.

Android operating system just isn’t as intuitive as the Apple. I tried one once when the Samsung 7 came out and I could not adapt so back I went. I have 3 iPads one I phone and one airbook.......easy peasy to master.

I just got a new phone....

My LG Android just conked out last weekend. Went and bought a nice new $250 Samsung Android phone. It was really hard to get set up. Everything has mores screens and warnings to flip through and ads to get out of the way. I don't like it. But Apples cost about 400 bucks more.

If I had plenty of money I'd go Apple.

Another Apple hater that jumped on the “hate Apple” bandwagon.

I think Samsung and Apple both make the best phones. I got an iPhone XS Max 256GB Gold a month ago, and really like it...My son got my 6S+ 128GB. Although I like the wall to wall screen on mine, it’s really no better than the 6S+. I like to watch Movies and YouTube on my phone, and they look and sound great.

The secret to our phones longevity is using Otterbox Defender cases and Zagg Screen protectors. They have saved our iPhones and iPads many times.

Check out the iPhone XR that just released...I think it is a better deal than the XS models for the cost.

One other thing to consider. You cannot increase the memory on Apple phones.

If you really don’t need all the bells and whistles then you certainly don’t need to buy their flagship models.

I own an Apple 6S and use a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active at work. Both are older phones that work well.

I just went to iPhone last year and since that time I noticed no more constant upgrades with badgering to install every time I start it up that makes the system worse which is typical of Android.

I caved in and upgraded the PTT on my company Android and now it's a real PITA.

Edit:Should mention both accounts are Verizon.

For what it’s worth, I use an iPhone and iPad. Don’t even use a computer anymore.

A couple of years back, as my iPhone was locked to a carrier in Japan, I bought an android phone from Amazon to use in the US. I wanted the ad free version, so it cost more than the one with ads, but was still only $100. Ran the latest android OS and all the apps, etc. It was a nice phone for a great price, I thought.

But there were things that I wanted to do that I am sure it was capable of doing, but I did not know how to do them. Some stuff I could Google up, but it was kinda a PITA. With Apple you can just call them up and they will explain it to you. (I think with a new phone they do this for a year, but I buy the extended warranty/AppleCare which gives two (?) years of unlimited help.

When I bought a new iPhone earlier this year, I made sure to get an unlocked phone, so now I just switch SIM cards depending on whether I am in the US or Japan.

I think if I were willing to spend the time to learn how to use an android phone it would suit just fine. But I’m not willing. Took me long enough to learn iPhone’s OS (IOS) when I switched from a Blackberry back in 2012. Don’t want to do that again.

(I think some people enjoy messing with new phones and learning new stuff. But, I don’t.)

I also like how Apple vets all the apps in its app store to ensure they are without viruses, etc. I don’t want to try to deal with that sort of thing on my own.

I think the high end Samsung phones are up there in price with the high end iPhones, but I think there are many more inexpensive android phones from various makers than iPhones available. I do agree, though, with the poster above who notes older iPhones are a good deal. Especially with a new battery installed. (Only $30 through December.) Especially refurbished by Apple.

I’ve read that while Apple has something like 20% of the global smartphone market, it makes something like 85% of the profit. Their margins are sky high. Hence, first trillion dollar company.

So, yeah, I think they are overpriced, but, even so, I buy their product anyway because the convenience is worth it to me.

I use an iPhone, because I knew about them and it's what my brother got me when I needed a cell phone better than my simple AT&T folder. He's a software designer who knows electronic stuff much better than I do.

The phone, a 5C model, will do far more than I need or understand. I use the phone, the camera, the compass, the calculator, and a weather forecast. The weather function had a glitch a few weeks ago, and my brother had to come over and fix that. But the phone now shows a weather city option as San Francisco, where it should be Cape Town. I'm afraid to try to fix that.

My son uses a complex Android. But he's a literal genius (based on IQ test scores) and he understands electronic stuff well. His home computer would probably operate the Starship Enterprise!
I think his wife also uses an Android.

His sister, her husband, and their kids all use Apples.

So, I guess our family is divided. But all those phones let us talk to whoever we call, and they take good pictures. In fact, my brother made some very high grade videos of where he went on his vacation. (His iPhone is a new model, not like mine. But it's longer and harder to carry in a pocket.)

I've never used the video function on my phone.

Use IPad a lot IPhone not so much. Guess I am old but I am not interested in texting although I use the camera function to send pics and take a lot of pics of car related things. Don’t utilize mine very well.
