Hearing aid battery nonsense

Kids and pets are both at risk. Once swallowed, the batteries can cause internal burns that can become dangerous and require surgery.

I'm not a doctor but I really don't think that's true. A battery is simply going to be ejected on the next BM.

BTW this year I bought new hearing aids. Not sure if they are any better then the ones I had for 10 years but the rechargeable batteries were better then sliced bread. Until I went on vacation and forgot the charger.

AFAIK rechargeable is not an option for us ITE users, and my type of hearing loss requires ITE. I also like being able to replace when batteries get low and recharging would be inconvenient, like on international flights.
I don't know if this helps, but there are In The Ear models with wireless recharging capability.
Starkey has Genesis AI and Evolve AI models that are rechargeable.
My Jabra OTE hearing aids come with a recharger/case with a built in battery that will recharge the hearing aids 3-4 times without ever being plugged in.
I'd bet that there are ITE hearing aids with a similar charging system.

I have used a sharp pointed awl to poke a hole the jar lid cover to break the vacuum in jar where all of the contents will be used right away. However. poking a hole in jar whose contents are not used all at once and needs to be resealed presents a problem. Maybe keeping a roll of heavy tape in the kitchen drawer would be the answer to resealing the hole in the jar lid.

I should have been a bit more detailed in my response. Use the rounded cap lifter portion of the can opener to gently lift the edge. You only need to go so far as to break the vacuum seal. You do not need to bend the cap. The cap should be re-usable after the seal is broken.

Re
Rechargeable vs batteries

My batteries last 5 to 7 days
The best rechargeable lasts 10 to 12 hours.
Even with a pocket recharger that is unnacceptable.

I have perfectly good phonak H.A. that are over 7 years old, take batteries and work fine.
Rechargeable H.A. Batteries WILL die after 3 years or so and the H.A. cannot be serviced or batteries replaced.
You get to throw out an otherwise perfectly good $5000 pair of H.A.

The magic technology advances touted by the whhite coat H.A. Vendors (they are not docotrs, folks)
are not worth my spending another $5k . I am checking costco to see what they can offer for
$1k but I have to be quick and beat the “tarrif taxes”

I now have rechargeable Resound HAs frrom Costco, but my previous ones were Rexton, which used replaceable batteries. (I still keep the Rextons in case the Resound need to be serviced for any reason.)

The Costco/Kirkland batteries are in an easy-to-open package with a flap on the back that you fold down and then rotate the clear plastic "cylinder" to expose a battery- basically a Colt SAA for HA batteries! Easy-peasy.

(I'm in Canada so the instructions are in English & French)

Point well taken about the rechargeable batteries not being replaceable, though. The Resound cost me $2k CDN (I think they're about $1700 USD) but I don't want to have to replace them just because of the batteries! Maybe by that time the Right to Repair movement will have got enough traction to require that they be replaceable- preferably by the local vendor as you wouldn't want to be without them for a week or so while they go back to the mfr's regional repair shop.

So far I’m sticking with 312s in my Resound aids. Here in Central Ga, Duracells still come in a decent plastic box, easy to get in to.

Does that hat come with a Steelers logo? Just the hypocycloid would be cool.
It would be nice if they could make the ringing in my head stop. I've been reading stuff about that, and, long story short, it's wearing out my brain. It's gotta be that devil spawn algebra back in 9th & 10th grades.

I use my small Pruning Shears on those ... S. O. B's.

There needs to be an Old Person On-Line Store where everything sold is Easy - Open ... We don't have the Time or Hand Strength to fool with child proof packages .

Costco changed their packaging to the impossible to open type. It's pretty darn frustrating. The older packaging shown was easy, the new stuff not so much. I'm going to check into in ear rechargables, I've had mine for 4 years now and it's probably time to visit the audiologist again.

Yuk. I've had those packages for a while - maybe a year - so they may be the old style. I've been swearing at "human-proof" packaging for years. Now these? :(

I like the battery ones when I am working and making noise because they are easy to turn off. The new ones also have been troublesome and sent in a couple time because the sounds on the left are coming over to the right.

When it comes to getting Child-Proof packags open ,,,
Put down the scissor's and get a set of small pruning shears , like my Corona Professional ( #BP-3180 ) ... so far No Package has withstood their razor sharp by-pass blade cutting abilities ...
Think of them as super cutting scissors on steroids !
I keep em in the bedroom for cutting open anything that defies easy opening !
They also trim plants and small limbs ... Like a Pro !
(sorry about the bad pun ... some puns just happen you know)

"Put down the scissor's and get a set of small pruning shears"

But the pruning shears are in a package that requires pruning shears to open!

I have Phonaks ITE from the VA for free and they seem to suit the purpose. Have bluetooth, and free batteries and waxtraps for ITE type HA. I get 5 days steady use with Energizer 312s.

My hearing aids were given to me by the VA. I wasn't given a choice, I was given Phonaks, but they seem to be good hearing aids.

I've heard some of the horror stories, but I will tell you that the VA in Colorado Springs treats me better than any HMO I ever dealt with.

My first pair of Phonaks had batteries, and the batteries usually lasted me about 3 days. I never wear my hearing aids to the gym because apparently, the sweat is bad for them. I would say I wear my hearing aids 12 hours a day.

After about 4 years, I had an appointment with the audiologist, and my audiologist actually is a doctor. She upgraded me to a pair of rechargeable phone apps and told me to keep my old ones as a backup. She also reprogrammed my old ones to compensate for the hearing changes since I've got them.

Every time we discuss hearing aids I say the same thing, and my hearing aids are the best stereo system I ever had. And the new ones apparently will work with my Bose speaker
