I found a pre-war M&P .38 serial # 42611X. I was wondering if someone could give me an approximate shipping date, and maybe a market value. It is well worn with about 50% finish remaining and non original stocks. It looks to be carried more than used, as the mechanics are tight and well timed. I have no pics as I have not yet purchased it, but I'm thinking the asking price of $350 is reasonable. Maybe?

A ballpark time frame for a 426-range M&P is early 1923.
Giving any meaningful value judgment without photos is difficult. Percentages are iffy; 50% would sound quite bad to many folks, but doesn‘t really mesh with just carry wear.
I‘ve paid about 350 for a .38 M&P of that time frame, (see attached), but I‘d expect original stocks and largely intact finish except for use wear on barrel and edges. There are enough of these around that you can be a bit selective.
