Hi.

New forum user, first post. I am picking up my M&P 15 Sport tomorrow and I was wondering if AR-15 multi-tools are a good thing to own and if so, which ones work well for the sport.

I have seen tools like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Sports-Stock-Combo-Style-Wrench/dp/B0052G6IZ8/ref=pd_sbs_sg_1

Are they a necessity when owning an AR? I have other rifles and handguns but this is my first AR.

Any advice and recommendations would be appreciated.

Ooops, make that second post (or rather third with this one) :) Apparently I posted about ammo prices a while back without recalling doing so... Anyway, question regarding AR multi-tool still of relevance...

ONLY if you plan on working on it beyond normal maint., like changing the bbl., adding a free float forend or removing the castle nut to add a sling mount or the like.

I would wait on tools and invest in a boresnake, good CLP, and a basic AR15 cleaning kit with rod, brushes etc. A bolt cleaning tool might be your friend too but do all wrenches are not necessary. IF you do buy smithing tools, buy good ones NOT cheap ones.:)

OK, thanks. I am not planning on doing anything beyond field stripping and regular cleaning for a good while so it sounds like I will manage without a multi-tool then.

There is a very good posting under the sticky Notable Thread written by forum member JaPes on tools to have for the AR.

Check out the MultiTasker...Every AR guy should have one. It's awesome.
