I think there's a difference between 38 special and 38 S&W, so can I assume that all Victory models shoot 38 special or were both calibers made in the Victory model?

The 5" models were chambered in .38 S&W. Most were lend/lease guns that went to Britain, Australia, and a few other countries. Somes of these were modified after the war to shoot .38 special. I think I saw somewhere that Lee Harvey Oswald shot the officer in Dalla with one of these. The 4" models were chambered in .38 special and were kept mostly for the Americans.
The Victory models were made in 2 different calibers the 38 S&W or 38/200 mainly for British Commonwealth countries with 4-5 and 6 inch barrels.
The Victory model in 38 Special was mainly for US military in 4-5 and 6 inch barrels (2 inch was also made in much smaller numbers.
Its important to note U.S. and British forces used used both cailbers.
After the war many Britsh 38 S&W were sold surplus to export firms and "gunsmithed" enmass to accept the 38 Special cartridge. Some conversions were of poor quality with resulting poor accuracy and splitting cases.
