Buddy long retired was going to put his Navy Victory up for sale and asked me to see what it now sells for as he is not much of an internet guy. It is an early model marked on top strap and also on side of gun and the the letters are filled in with red paint. I have found several on net but none for sale. I have seen it about 40 years ago and it is a good 99 percent wit tight lockup. I have seen this referred to as a Red Letter Navy Victory. I told him to get a S&W Factory Letter. It is .38 Special. Thanks for looking.

Serial number? Pictures? Pictures should include all markings.

Not sure of current value. I have a US Navy marked victory on the top strap and I know the red letter version stamped on the side is more valuable.

Here is one data point. I am aware of the sale about 6 weeks ago at a Florida show of the following Victory. It had the Navy top strap marking, but instead of being a red letter Navy it was a slightly different version marked NYMI (Navy Yard Mare Island) on the left side of the frame. I don't think that there is a lot of difference in value between the two types. That gun was not in top condition but rather was in average condition although all original and genuine. It sold quickly for $800.

HTH.

Regards,
Charlie

Be aware there was a notorious faker with regard to the red letter marking who was plying his trade in these right about 40 years ago.

I have always been suspicious of Red Letter revolvers. Mainly because they can be so easily faked, and also because no one seems to know anything about their origin, as S&W did not do the engraving.

I picked up a Navy victory on Sunday. It is marked along the top strap only, I paid $700 which I thought was a good deal. I'm very leery of these red letter marked guns because everyone I've seen is incorrect.
