I'm asking because I'm just curious if theres any alternatives to Mike Larrocca around my area, he's got abit of a reputation for taking forever on basic gunsmithing jobs and everyone else that I know of is quite a considerabile drive away.

and what I'm looking for is a smith who does basic repair work on guns, specifically handguns not primarily customising them or rifles or shotguns.

basically just someone who can fix handguns, shotguns and rifles regardless in a timely manner, about 4 - 5 weeks, not six months.

I have to tell you that my inclination would be to call him and ask him about the specific work that you want done. I'm sure that there must be something behind what you've heard, but I'm not sure what it is. I live on the Cape, and wanted a beavertail fitted about twenty years ago, and I called him up and actually made an appointment. I brought in the gun, sat in his shop for an hour or so or whatever, and walked out with finished work. Reasonable price, too. Certainly, his workload may have changed, but he already had a name even back then.

I'd ask him first.

Ugh so much for trying to be nice and not bad mouth him.

I have used him before and he takes forever with handguns, which are my primary interest with firearms, what he does is waits till he has everything he needs to start on a batch of guns instead of doing the ones that he can do now and get them back to the customer asap.

plus he doesnt actually use the internet to look for gun parts which has tied up one of my guns for quite some time and to add insult to injury I have found that said part and taken it to him personally and the guns still not done and he didnt say anything about the part being defective since then

and its been 6 months since then, I just dont want to use him anymore and he's been like this for the past 2 years, you drop a gun down there and its gone for 6 months, I did have a case like yours with a handgun where he fixed in person but everything else took forever and I'm just sick of it and I have guns that need gunsmithing and there simple tasks too.

But I dont want the K22 and the M29 to be tied up for 8+ months for a cylinder stop dragging on the bluing with the 29 and I dont want to take it back to smith and wesson because they'll mark it for it being sent back to the repair shop.
