Are these stocks too nice to take the medallions from?

I need a pair of 1/2" diameter medallions to replace the Colt medallions someone put in a set of Eagle N Frame round to square stocks.

To that end, I came up with this pair of stocks. That said, now that I have them in hand, I think they are too nice to break up for the medallions.

There are plenty of S&W stocks for sale locally (many for optomistic prices) but almost none old enough to have the large medallions.

Thoughts?

I would check Numrich parts corporation's home site before I scavenge anything.

Be patient, wait for a damaged or broken pair. I did, took like 8 months but found a pair with one panel broken in half
Just my thoughts

I'm in concurrence with my colleagues above - I wouldn't destroy a serviceable set of older stocks. An already-broken set is sure to turn up at some point.

Those stocks are in pretty solid condition, and could be brought back up to "like new" by a couple of the experts on this forum. I wouldn't break them up, but have them"re-freshed" and the would be worth quite a bit, well over any costs of the work done.

N-frames, yes - K frames, no. If you are interested in just the medallions, a scabby pair of K-frames would work OK as donors.

I don't think those stocks are in very good shape: dented right medallion, checkering going smooth, dented margins. Plus, the medallions are the brass, deep dished ones. I wouldn't have a problem sacrificing them for a project if that design (deep dished) is the one you want.

Thanks for all the opinions, I think I'll go with my gut (and the majority) and put them in the parts box and keep looking for a badly damaged set to take the medallions from.

Hello M1, Im glad you decided to put them away. Those teen era are getting hard to find even with dents and somewhat worn. You will find an M&P that will need them. Good choice to keep. Can you relay the penciled Sn. ?
