Are they gathering used gun serial numbers?

I don't know if this is a local thing, or what is going on...

But my local shop told me that the feds are wanting him to submit the serial numbers of all used firearms that come into his shop. Now, I know he has our local sheriffs department run the numbers of all used pieces to verify they aren't stolen, but this is different.

Is he pulling my leg, or is someone pulling his? Anyone else heard of this?

Without mentioning any names, this is one of the ways firearm registration and other agendas that don't stand a chance of getting through Congress are being implemented through rewriting regulations rather than passing legislation.
