I have a chance to get one of these..
I can get a Used Armalite AR-10 in 308cal. Other then that condition is great so they say. I don't know any more.. Priced at $1450

or a AR Bushmaster Maine made in 308cal. Still used but close to new condition. I would say 98% $1250

Would one be a better investment then the other.. How is the pricing? George

The Armalite is by far the superior rifle. I'd spend the money.

There's a reason the military uses AR-10's and not Bushies.

Yep, AR10 for me please... Only thing with AR10 type is there have been several magazine types and they don't all work together. It has gotten better, or more standard I should say. How old is the AR10?

Uh, WHAT military uses the Armalite AR10??

USA? Nope. Canada? Nope. Britain? Nope.

Armalite killed itself in the grand scheme of things by refusing years ago to work with MAgpul to make magazines that would be compatible with multiple rifle platforms. They caved 2 years ago, and now you can get an AR10 that will accept a Pmag. If you can find one.....

They are really good rifles. But mags are EXPENSIVE. And there are 2 series of them, and they are really picky about jumping mags between them.
I have 2 of the BM's. I liked the first one so much, I grabbed a second unit when the price was right.
Very reliable, eat all types of ammo without complaints, and use DPMS platform so there is some interchangability of parts, and yes, they work with Pmags.

Having used both, and having dropped my money on them both over the years? There is no reason to choose the Armalite over the BM/ DPMS/ CMMG, or Smith and Wesson M&P 10. They are all the same animal.;)

Unless you GOTTA have a military rifle. Then, get ready to pony up for an SR25 from KAC. And expect to throw down $2200 or more. Or, the LMT, which the Brits use (Were money no object, this is where my cash would fall) Expect to pay $2700 or more.

I've owned both in the smaller caliber and can't put one over the other. Get them both if they are for investment. If you want to use it, get the Bushmaster as it is cheaper. JMO-----By the way, my Bushmaster is the finest AR I've owned of about 12-15 military type firearms. It is flawless and VERY accurate. I run the mini-Y comp brake on it.

I am going to preface by saying that I believe that DPMS is the bottom-feeder of the AR market.

HOWEVER, I shot a DPMS Oracle A-TACS (chambered in .308) and thought it was put together quite well, for something that you can buy new at Gander Mountain or Cabela's for $1,200.

Just a thought.

Don't think that's the case anymore. I just bought one on Thursday from LGS for $1087 with one mag in box (not hard case). Took it out this last weekend and it was super! Except the collapsable stock stinks, lol. No cheek weld at all with this. Definitely 1st thing to change out.

No problems with DPMS or Bushmaster .308. I own both.

Armalite is nothing more than a "has been" brand name. The current production BM & DPMS both use standard small pin AR 15 fire control components and superior magazines.

Thanks guy's.. Ok I will be liking to Owen them but I will be shooting it too.. I think the Bushmaster in .308 does $1250 may be the best choice as I do want to make some money on this rifle i don't want to buy it just to re sell it right away to profit i would like wait a few years have some fun with it and then by that time they may just demand more money and with good timing there may be some money to be made. I know it's hard I have not seen the rifle yet but have known the dealer for 30 years and trust his statement " Like New" What kind of deal could I be getting? What's the high and low end of pricing? Thanks George

I got 2 of them at different times over the last 2 seasons. Paid $875 for one to a Police officer in Va. whose department switched from officer owned rifles to department rifles in the car. He figured if he was not using it for work, he did not need it. ( I all but jumped for joy. The rifle truly only had about 100 rounds thru it. He qualified with it, and shot it a couple times, and then it rode in the car for 4 months until the department changed policy.)
I got the 2nd unit about 3 months pre-panic and paid around $1000 for it after DROS. Anything around a grand is fair for a rifle in good shape. Look to the bolt face for a lot of brass/ shavings and wear. Look to the lock lugs to see how worn they are. If there is not a lot of bare metal showing, the rifle is pretty low use. Look to the glide surfaces of the bolt, and the inside of the upper. If it's not worn, then the rifle has not seen a high round count.

FWIW, my rifles are both standard 16" carbines, with no optics. I added sights to them. This was in part the reason for the bare bones pricing.
