Army looking for a new handgun

Why can't we just all carry an M4 and get along?

I like that the USMC is apparently moving back to the M1911, even if it is a sand-colored series 80 abortion with a "tactical" rail. ;)
Those 1911's, like the MEUSOC pistols before them, are a very limited issue.

There just isn't a whole lot of "stopping power" in a fmj handgun round. As long as it has enough penetrating power it should do the job.

I think the Army is just looking for some funding to do some studies for some tests to just to go with some thing pretty ordinary.

Glock 21. It's an overwhelmingly popular choice in law enforcement for obvious reasons. Simple, effective.

In a war situation how long would the plastic hold up under sustained fire? Could the plastic seperate from the metal when the metal gets over heated and expands. Is there a test on this somewhere?

The "Luger" **** came from the movie "Sgt. York" starring Gary Cooper, where the prop men gave him a Luger to re-enact the feat.
In fairness to the prop guys, from what I've read they did try to give Cooper a Colt 1911 for that scene, but either they did not have one adapted to fire blanks, or the one they did have would not fire the blanks they had. Finally they went with that prop Luger which fired blanks without a hitch. Gotta keep the shooting on schedule.

They probably figured few people would notice, and fewer still would care. Shows what they knew! :) That Luger irritated me around age 12 when I first saw the movie!

Google "Chuck Taylor Glock torture test." By the time I stopped paying attention, Chuck (and his helpers) had put 300,000 rounds virtually nonstop through a Glock 17 without any serious damage to the gun. (I think the sights came loose eventually.) Originally he didn't plan to clean the piece, but he relented when the slide became sluggish after 10,000 rounds.

Yeah, a 9mm Glock would hold up.

Thanks I was wondering if a non stop heat test was done.
Using moly on the frame rails could help it stay smooth.

...We're beginning to just wound the enemy and not kill them. This is war any dead enemy is one taken out of action not to fight again. We're too humane.

If you refer to military strategy books and training materials, it is often strategically more beneficial to wound the enemy than to kill them. A wounded soldier consumes more of the enemy's resources than a dead one.

A wounded soldier, also, if he's American, British, Canadian, Australian, or most European countries means that his friends will try to rescue him. That provides more targets to the enemy.
