AR's (any brand)with extras--lets see 'em

Yup............

I believe it was Ed Heineman (sp?), one of the designers of the A4 Douglas Skyhawk (and the AD "Spad") who said that while working on the Skyhawk his goal was to "simplify and add lightness".

A good trigger helps a lot and obviously doesn't add anything in the way of weight; a very compact optic of choice helps even younger shooters; a LW barrel cuts ounces; and there is a lot to be said for a light (even though they kludge up the balance of the piece). Less is more.

A man of principal understanding..................

Here's one I built out of parts I accumulated. It has a Genuine Colt military barrel and stocks but is mostly off the shelf parts. I wanted it to look like the one that I carried when I was in the Army, way back when. The 'extras' wil have to be the pine needles on the granite steps. :D

Something elegant about that.............

Different guns for different roles........

Top, DPMS 5.56 with Leupold 3x9, most of the other stuff came off.
S&W MP-15 (built by Stag) with a Redfield 2x7
DPMS .308 with off-brand 4-16 scope, which will soon be replaced.
Bottom, Del-Ton bare-bones carbine for my son, he's a KISS kinda guy.

The S&W MP-15 has over 6K through it, mostly steel-cased TULA, and has yet to stutter. I clean it in odd-numbered years.....if I don't forget.

CMMG M4 pattern/clone that I have had for years. It has the 14.5" bbl and then the flash hider is permanently attached to bring it up over 16". This makes it rather handy and it carries nicely in a tennis racket case I found for $3 in a thrift store.

It has one of the higher end EoTechs on it, painted tan by the previous owner. A surplus rear BUIS is behind that, which I took the time to cowitness as the trendy thing to do.

The VFG is the GripPod Systems military model. You press a button and instant bipod. My kid's Nerg guns came with a system just like it.

I put a rubber butt pad that I'm told was for use with M203 equipped guns on my carbine. I found it in a bin at the Quantico MCX for five dollars. I like the improved fit.

The buttstock mag holder is by Specter. The light is an older Surefire.

A Maine made Bushmaster ORC that I will likely get rid of. It has an inexpensive but workable red dot. The NC Star rails came with it when I got it. I only added the sling. I dislike the lack of a front sight post.

Well done. That takes me back.
