This article is about the most erroneous and misinformed info. about Victory Models I've seen or read in a long time! I don't know who concocted it but he must have been from another planet! S&W never did any M1 Carbines for the Brits. They did do a couple prototype carbines later as R&D projects. What they did do, and that's what the article has mixed up, was develop and make the Model 1940 Light Rifles that did not work out as usable for the Brits and the Brits wanted their money back, which resulted i a "Guns for Payback" deal with the Brits. Also the U.S.N.C.P.C. ( U.S.Navy Civilian Police Corp. ) never had anything to do with the 12 years later development of the S&W Aircrewman revolvers. The U.S.N.C.P.C. guns were originally ordered to equip a non-military police organization idea that was dropped before it ever got started . The Model 1905, 4th change, revolvers were made by S&W with the U.S.N.C.P.C. stamp on the back straps. 3500 guns were shipped to the Navy, and the Navy eventually distributed them to various war plants for use by the pant security guards, etc.
It's unfortunate there's no way to vet misinformation posted on the internet, except to pay attention to this Forum when it comes to S&Ws ! Ed.
