The Deptment of Veteran's Affairs and the Houston National Cemetery are accused of banning the words "God and "Jesus" at funeral services. They are also accused of requiring prayers for the dead be submitted for government approval prior to a service.

I can't believe this is happening.

Okay-
I don't want this thread to slide into general political commentary, or proselytizing, or a general discussion of Christianity. The rules forbid all 3.
If it does, I'll lock it.

This thread is about the denial of a Constitutional and natural right in a national cemetery. <That's a PERIOD ;)

Now, off to do some editing......

How long is it going to take before people wake up and take our country back. Before the sixties this would never have been an issue.

I too am a Vet (2nd Armored Division '68 to '71) and I am sad to see this. I read this on FOX, as you would not really ever see it on CNN, the Communist News Network. It is, however, what I would expect in an all to liberal country. But, America is great, and most Americans are repulsed by this. They just don't have the national attention that the libs seem have. They want to take our voice, and our guns, away. Never let that happen.

I am non religious. I don't want anyone to try to force their views on me, on the other hand, neither do I expect them to change to my way of thinking either. Our freedoms are in jeopardy in these days, not the least of which is the freedom of religion.

In the name of the ...... the ... and the ..... ..... Amen.

Hows that looking?

Our freedoms are being eroded by this kind of political correctness.

I thought the oath to serve included God and Country!

I lost here. What happened to the 1st amendment?
When you honor someone who has served his country what is said is a matter for the family. Some VA seat polisher has no say in it!
It's time to get out the torches and pitchforks!

You are correct sir. The following is the oath all enlisted personnel take when they enlist in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps:

"I, (state your name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Sorry, if I was conducting the funeral or it was a member of my family, I would do the prayer as I wished. What are they going to do about it? Wrestle you to the ground during the service?

Political correctness is just another name for censorship.

Political correctness is just another name for censorship.

Indeed and if this is what they mean by being Political correct I don't want any part of it.

and ontop of that this kinda PC **** is putting us one step closer to living in a real life 1984.

Can't believe such a thing could happen here in the big H.
I've been to that cemetery. It's way up on the north side of
town. Believe me, lots of people around here are already
plenty hot about this judging from a quick search.
She will be lucky if she is not run out of town on a rail.

In the search, I see she's originally from Chicago. :(
That explains a lot.. I can tell you, as a local, she done
stepped in it... I think it's totally pathetic, and I'm going to
call all the usual representatives in the area to complain.
I see Ted Poe is already hot on her tail, and he's a fairly
serious feller around these parts.. Ex-judge, yada yada..

This @#$% ain't gonna fly. I'll tell you that right now.
If she doesn't get fired, by the time everyone gets through
with her, she'll want to quit.

BTW, she looks like Janet Napolitano on a bad hair day, and
Janet Napolitano is hard on the eyes on a good hair day. :(

Whether God or Jesus is mentioned at a funeral should not be the government's decision to make. It should be decided by members of the deceased's family. We've got TSA folks strip searching 95 year old women now too. Has common sense become such a rare commodity, or are some people just looking for new ways to make everyone's life around them miserable?

Sorry, if I was conducting the funeral or it was a member of my family, I would do the prayer as I wished. What are they going to do about it? Wrestle you to the ground during the service?

Amen this brother.
I don't see it as much a sad day that the government would try to ban it, as I do that there are people who would obey it.

Absurd.
Ludicrous.

The 1st Amendment states-
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." (italics mine)

So, we have a sequence of events:
1- A Vet takes an oath to defend the Constitution.
2- Vet dies, possibly in the line of duty upholding that oath.
3- Vet is buried in national cemetery, but family and friends are denied Constitutional rights.

This woman could be insane, but is more likely simply abusing authority to push a personal agenda.

I hope she is removed from her position.
I hope the DOJ prosecutes her for denial of civil rights and abuse of power.
I hope the families sue her personally for denying them their Constitutional rights and reduce her to the status of a pauper.;)
The rest of my thoughts are not Godly, and I shall do my best to quit thinking them.

That ground does NOT belong to the government- it belongs to us, and especially to the Vets who lie in it!
